Models Should Never Consume These Items

Models are known to be beautiful with amazing bodies. Pink Avenue Models has blogged about exercising, nutrition and taking care of yourself even if you were born with an amazing body. Models have to watch what they eat at all times. We all have favorite foods that may not be the best for us but we want to eat them anyways. Here is a short list of things that our Chicago models should NEVER consume. If you are in love with any of these items you should find a healthier substitute.

1. Soda. (People in Chicago call it Pop) Soda can taste so good but there is nothing healthy about it. An average can of soda has 10 teaspoons of sugar, 150 calories and 30-55 mg of caffeine. Soda also includes artificial food colors and sulphites. Models should not think that drinking diet soda is any better. Diet sodas have unhealthy artificial sweeteners that are more unhealthy than natural sugars. Soon there will be a warning label on soda to notify consumers of the health risks which include weight gain, diabetes, tooth decay and so much more. Models should drink water!

2.Potato Chips and French Fries. These common items contain acrylamide which is formed when foods are baked or fried at high temperatures. They say that the acrylamide level in a large order of fast food fries was at least 300 times the amount allowed by the EPA. These foods also contain trans fat which is known to clog arteries. Eating food like this can put models at a higher risk of getting heart disease, diabetes, cancer and strokes. There are so many reasons to stay away from these foods.

3. Doughnuts. Another food that models may love to eat but there is not a single healthy item in a doughnut. Doughnuts are made out of sugar, flour, artificial flavors, and hydrogenated oils that are full of trans fats.

4. Baked goods. This includes cakes, biscuit mixes, muffins and anything else you can find in a bakery. These items are full of trans fats, corn syrup, artificial colors and flavors. Models should eat oatmeal or healthy granola bars instead of muffins or bagels in the morning.

5. Lunch meats and hotdogs. Processed meats like sausage, bacon, pepperoni contain a carcinogenic precursor called sodium nitrate. Sodium nitrite is a dangerous cancer causing ingredient. Eating processed meats has been linked to pancreatic cancer. If you are addicted to hotdogs, pepperoni or any other processed meats you can find nitrate free meats at a health food store.

6. Canned soup. Soup sounds like it would be healthy but when it is in a can it has high levels of trans fats, sodium, and MSG. One cup of soup can contain 1,000 milligrams of salt. Salt is known to make your body feel and look bloated and that is the last thing that a Chicago model needs. The best thing to do is make your own soup at home.

There are so many foods out there that models should never consume. These are 6 items that were found over and over again while Pink Avenue Models was doing research. Models should drink a lot of water and eat mostly fruits and vegetables to remain healthy. Models can also eat wholesome low-sugar and healthy-fat foods. Stay away from fast food restaurants and try to make your meals at home as much as possible.

Goodbye Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson

Pink Avenue Models had a blog planned out for today but thought that it was more appropriate to mention the incidents that took place yesterday.
Farrah Fawcett died at the age of 62 yesterday. Farrah was an amazing actress, Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominee, and a well known sex symbol. Farrah was one of the original Charlie's Angels and was the girl on every guys bedroom wall. Farrah was an icon and will be missed.

Michael Jackson passed away yesterday and we are still in shock. Michael Jackson was amazing and will be remembered forever. Michael was only 50 years old and died way to soon. There is so much to say about Michael Jackson whether it is good or bad everyone knows that Michael Jackson was one of the best selling artists of all times, an amazing performer and will never be forgotten.

Summer Make Up Tips for Models

It's hot in Chicago, really hot, like 95 degrees! It's hard for models to wear make up and look good when they are sweating like crazy. Here are a few make up tips for our Chicago models, we want you to look amazing all year long.

1. Wear a moisturizer that has an SPF of at least 15. This will protect your face from sun damage and early signs of aging. Buy this in a tinted formula and you can stop using foundation or powder. When it is 95 degrees outside foundation and powder just sweat off and leave a model's face feeling gross.

2.Since our Chicago models will be wearing sunscreen on their face and body there is not much of a chance that they will be getting tan. It's ok models can fake it! Bronzer is a must have in every models make up bag.

3. Light eyeshadow colors are in and looking natural is a must this summer. Choose light neutral colors that shimmer. There is no need to wear black mascara in the summer, lighten it up and make sure that it is waterproof!

4. Make sure that your chapstick has sunscreen in it. Burned lips are painful and do not look good. If you want to add color to your lips make sure that you go with a light natural color over your chapstick. No heavy or dark lipstick this season.

Summer is fun and goes by fast. The goal is to look amazing with minimal make up and little effort. You do not want to be the model at the beach with too much make up on that is sweating off your face. Have fun this summer we all know that Chicago summers go by so fast!

NPE 2009, A HUGE Trade Show

The International Plastics Showcase has come to Chicago and brought over 75,000 people from over 120 countries. NPE 2009 is bigger and better than ever. This year the NPE has new technology pavilions on the show floor, several co-located events and the first ever International Plastics Design Competition. The NPE takes up over 1 million square feet and will be showcasing trends and technologies in the automotive, medical, consumer products, electronics, transportation, packaging, and agriculture markets.

You are probably wondering what the NPE Show has to do with the modeling industry, right? Well Pink Avenue Models received numerous calls from exhibiting clients and booked some of Chicago's best trade show models for this show. The trade show started yesterday and goes until Friday June 26th. The models have said that the trade show is a lot of fun and that the clients are really easy to work with! We love to hear that. If you are at the NPE Show this week make sure you stop by and say hello to our favorite Chicago models!

Modeling Agency VS. Modeling School

Pink Avenue Models gets a lot of phone calls and emails from girls asking how much it costs to be part of our agency. The answer is that it is free! Modeling agencies should NEVER charge a model to be part of their modeling agency. The only time a modeling agency can take money from a model is if the model is managed by a modeling agency and that agency found them work. The modeling agency usually takes 20%. This usually happens with print and runway models, this DOES NOT happen at Pink Avenue Models. If you are contacted by a modeling agency and they ask you for money do not pay, it is a scam.

Modeling schools are a whole different thing. There are modeling schools out there that do cost money, a lot of money. These schools can not promise you work but accept almost everyone. Modeling schools try and teach potential models about self confidence, poise, style, the modeling industry and so much more. Some modeling agencies offer classes about how to get clear skin, healthy hair, nail care, nutrition and exercise, runway and how to pose at a photo shoot. We researched some of the popular modeling schools and they all seem similar but say that they are so much different from each other. Modeling school is not required to work in the modeling industry and most of the things taught can be learned in magazines or from the internet.

To summarize this long blog I just want to say that modeling agencies should never ask for money from models, never! Modeling schools do charge models to take classes and can teach potential models about the modeling industry. There are tons of books out there that can teach interested girls about the modeling industry. Do some research before you sign up for classes or submit your information to modeling agencies.

What Makes Pink Avenue Models Different??

What makes Pink Avenue Models different than all of the other "modeling agencies" out there?

Pink Avenue Models knows their models. We have either met our models in person, worked with them in the past or interviewed them. Pink Avenue Models would never book people that we don't know. Not everyone can become a Pink Avenue Model, we are very selective here. We hire models based on their looks, resumes and personality.

Pink Avenue Models pays well and pays fast. There are so many "modeling agencies" or "staffing agencies" out there that think it is acceptable to pay 45 or 60 days or even 90 days after the event. Pink Avenue Models has paid as little as 3 days after an event. We pride ourselves on rewarding our models for their hard work. There is no reason that models should be paid months later for their work. We love our models and appreciate them very much. Their would not be Pink Avenue Models without our amazing models.

Pink Avenue Models has close relationships with their clients. We know our clients, we know what our clients want and out clients love our process. Pink Avenue Models tries to make the booking process as fast and simple as possible, clients appreciate that. We go out of our way to make the event a success no matter what it takes.

Pink Avenue Models does it all! We get calls for trade show models, print models, street teams, brand ambassadors and everything in between. Pink Avenue Models has experienced models nationwide. Clients can call us and ask for the most random thing and we will try our best to make it happen.

Pink Avenue Models enjoys working with our clients and models and we enjoy hearing the great feedback. Pink Avenue Models knows the modeling industry well and we wanted to build a modeling agency that takes care of our models and keeps our clients coming back. That is why our modeling agency is different than the other modeling agencies out there.

What is TFP ?

Models are probably getting tons of offers for TFP or TFCD but what do these things mean? TFP can mean numerous things, depends on the agreement between the photographer and model. TFP means Time For Prints or Trade for Prints. It can also mean Time for Portfolio or Trade for Portfolio. No matter how it is said it means that the model is not getting paid or paying the photographer but in return will get images for their portfolios. TFCD means Trade For CD which means that you will get a CD with all of the images for the shoot.

Why do models do TFP work? Building a modeling portfolio can be extremely expensive for models so they do TFP work. Models offer a few hours of their time and get images to use on their websites, social network sites and to send to clients. This allows models to shoot whenever they want and get a variety of images for their books.

When doing TFP work make sure that you research the photographer. Make sure the photographer has references and does work that you are interested in doing. Remember that is totally normal that the model brings an escort. If the photographer doesn't allow an escort than that is a sign that he is unprofessional and has different expectations. All photographers should have the model sign a release form that includes the agreement between the photographer and model. The agreement should also mention that the model owns all rights to the photos that were taken.

Models have to start somewhere, TFP is something all models have done. After a model has become more established and very experienced she is then allowed to charge a hourly rate for shoots, until then don't act like a diva. Modeling is a competitive industry that only pays the best.

Have fun at your next photo shoot and send me pictures! If you are looking for TFP work in the Chicago area please contact Pink Avenue Models for recommendations.

Trade Show Models

A trade show model is a model that is hired to represent a company to attendees. A trade show model is hired by the client through a modeling agency. Trade show models are hired to be the face of the company they are representing and are much more than a pretty face. Here are 5 things that you may not know about a trade show model.

1. Trade show models are hired for their looks. There are a lot of promotions that want any girl to represent their product but trade show exhibitors want beautiful girls with nice bodies. Trade show models are also known as booth babes.

2.Trade show models are usually models that have college degrees and are very smart. Models can make a lot of money at trade shows and that is part of the reason that we work them.

3. Trade show models do not work directly for the company but have to learn about the products and services that the company offers very quickly. Trade show models are the main attraction at the booth and have to know the answers to simple questions.

4. Trade show models are usually uncomfortable, cold and in pain but have to act like they are the happiest person in the world. Trade show models are usually wearing minimal clothing in a cold convention center and in so much pain from standing 8-10 hours a day in heels. Be extremely nice to any trade show model.

5. Trade show models are usually treated like a princess by the client while working with them. This may include paid parking, paid lunches, daily bonus, free product, dinners and parties after the event. Trade shows are long hours and hard work but the paycheck is well worth it.

Pink Avenue Models hires the best trade show models nationwide. Call us if you need beautiful, intelligent, outgoing models for your next event.

Our Chicago models recommend using Mac Splashproof Lash Mascara or Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara. For a cheaper version our models recommend Avon Superfull Mascara or Rimmel Volume Flash Waterproof Mascara.

3.Self tanner! We all know that the sun is not the best thing for you but models love to look tan. So what can we do?? Models can use a self tanner. Our Chicago models recommend using Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Self Tan Gel or Clinique Self Sun Body Tinted Lotion. If models are looking for a lotion and self tanner mix we recommend using Dove Summer Glow Beauty Body Lotion and you can get this anywhere.

4. Sunscreen! Sunscreen is mandatory and should be worn every day. Carry it in your bag at all times! Our Chicago models said that they love using Clinique Face and Body Cream SPF 15. Avon also makes a great sunscreen called Avon Bronze Moisturizing and Anti Aging Sun Cream SPF 30.

Get Your Name Out There

You are interested in being a model but clueless on how to get your name out there. Not everyone that is interested in becoming a model will reach their goal, sorry but this is a very competitive industry. Pink Avenue Models blogged about how to become a model in the past but there are a few things that we wanted to recommend doing after you have done the necessary work. Pink Avenue Models mentioned that interested models should set up a photo shoot, print the best pictures and start sending them to modeling agencies nationwide. After all of this is done there are other things that you can do to get your name out there. Here is a list of sites you can join to help promote yourself and potentially get work, most of them are free!!

Anyone can look at this site so be safe and limit the information you give. www.modelmayhem.com

One Model Place. This site is great and has been around for a while. Everyone in the modeling industry is on this site. Do You Know Your Healthy Weight and BMI Numbers?

I keep saying that summer is coming to Chicago and I really do believe it will be here soon. Pink Avenue Models has blogged about perfect hair and perfect skin but today we want to talk about getting that perfect body. Well… no body is perfect but we want to see if you have the best body that you can. Pink Avenue Models found a couple very helpful websites that will calculate what your weight and BMI should be. Are you as healthy and in shape as possible?

To check your Ideal Body Weight click on this link http://www.healthcentral.com/diet-exercise/ideal-body-weight-3146-143.html . It will ask you what your height and weight is and then send you a description of what your healthy weight should be. This will also tell you if you are underweight, overweight or just right.

Weight isn’t the only thing that matters. Here is a way to find out what your BMI is. BMI stands for body mass index, this is a way to calculate the percentage of body fat. Click on this link to see your results http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ .

Some models are born with that awesome body and some have to work at getting that awesome body. Working out and eating healthy is necessary for everyone including models. We all know that working out is boring but try and make it fun. Work out with a friend or take a fun class, listen to music. Do whatever you need to do to make it a little more enjoyable. As for eating… eat healthy but make sure you enjoy your food. Pizza, candy, chips, soda ect are not the best foods for anyone but in moderation everything is ok. More health tips coming next week!

Posing for Photo Shoots Part 2

Yesterday Pink Avenue Models blogged about the photos that every model should have in their portfolio. Today we want to add a few tips to make those photos perfect. Like we said a photo shoot is a lot harder than most people can imagine. Here are a few tips to make your next photo shoot perfect.

Smile. Every model should have a picture with a smile. All clients and modeling agencies want to see a model's smile and teeth. This does not mean that you have to have a big smile in all of your pictures. Sounds weird but models really do practice expressions in the mirror and you should too. Practicing your smile in the mirror will give you ideas of what looks bad and what works.

Eyes. A model's eyes are very important in pictures. Most people think that they should look directly in the camera but that is wrong. If you notice candid pictures are very common, modeling agencies want natural looking pictures. Remember to have a new pose every shot and this includes moving your eyes. Look to the sides, down, up, around the camera and sometimes directly into the camera.

Posing. Beginner models always think that the main pose is to stand straight, legs open a little with their hands on their hips, yes it works sometimes but there are so many other options. Models are creative people so use your talent. I was once told that if the pose doesn't hurt that it won't look good on camera. Stretch your body, bend move a lot and you should create great images.

Posture. Another thing that beginner models do at photo shoots is try and suck in or stick out their chest, don't do this! It looks unnatural and painful. Stand straight, shoulders back and this will create a slimmer look. Good posture can make you look 10 pounds lighter. Breath naturally.

Sitting/ Laying down. These are 2 of the hardest poses for models and photographers. Sitting is difficult for models because they have to balance their weight. Laying down is hard for models because they have to make sure that they are posing in the right directions and it is hard for the photographer because he has to get the perfect angle. Models that are laying down get lazy and think that laying there will get the shot but it is way more difficult than that.

Chin. This is so difficult and something that a model should watch at all times. Models can't have their chins too high because then the camera gets shots going up the model's nose but if the model has her chin low it causes multiple chins. So what should a model do?? Models should keep their chin straight and tilt the head slightly. The photographer will help with this they know how it looks on camera.

Legs. Here is another tip that I was told. If you want the picture to appeal to men it is acceptable to have your legs open a little but not spread open. If you want the picture to appeal to women keep your legs closed or angle your body to the side.

A photo shoot is hours of work, hair, make up and wardrobe changes and all of the posing, it's a lot to think about. Try to relax and have fun, if you are too serious it will show in your pictures. Remember to be natural, use your eyes, practice your smile and expressions, have good posture and angle your chin and legs correctly. I can't wait to see your new pictures!

Posing Tips for Your Next Photo Shoot

Photo shoots can be a lot of fun but are so much work. A photo shoot sounds like it may be easy but it is way harder than it looks. Photo shoots include long hours, hours of hair and make up, tons of posing and a lot of wardrobe changes. There are four types of photos that most modeling agencies will ask for, do you have these in your portfolio?

Headshot. Every modeling agency will ask for this. Make sure you have a headshot that represents you well. A headshot will be a very close up picture of your face, wear minimal make up and smile. Most modeling agencies will ask that a model's headshot is not photoshopped. Modeling agencies want to see what a model really looks like.

Bodyshot. This picture is also required by most modeling agencies. A bodyshot should show the model's whole body and the model should wear a swimsuit. Modeling agencies and clients want to see how the body looks, they will examine the arms, legs and body tone. Never stand straight up in bodyshots, add curve to your body by bending your arms and legs.

Lifestyle Photo. This is a very natural picture of a model. Most lifestyle pictures are of models that are not posing. This picture is always of a model smiling, looking happy and rarely looking at the camera.

Action Photo. This picture is usually of a model running, playing a sport or doing something active. Action photos are the hardest to take because the model is being active and trying to look pretty at the same time.

Models should have a variety of looks in their portfolios. The more looks a model can pull off the more work the model will get. Make sure that the pictures that are sent to modeling agencies are recent and that you have the same hair color, and same weight. If you change your look get new pictures taken. Have fun at your next photo shoot!

Do You Have a Modeling Resume?

Have you noticed that most modeling agencies ask you for a resume? A promotional or modeling resume is very important in this industry. A model's resume shows modeling agencies and clients what you have done in the past. Make sure that you have a great resume before you send it out. A model's resume should include:

Stats. Make sure your resume has your height, weight, measurements (chest, waist, hips), and age. You could include eye color and hair color but this isn't as important.

Contact Information. Have your email address and phone number on your resume. You can skip putting your address on there for safety reasons. A lot of models get work from Craigslist and other sites that are not as safe.

Work history. Model's do this differently and there is no correct way to do it. Make sure that you list past events that you have worked. Some models have a client list or an agency list which is great to see but past events is more important. When listing your past events make sure that you list the event name, product or brand that you promoted, date and job title, these are all very important.

Picture. This is the modeling industry and models get hired for their looks. Models are recommended to have a headshot on their resume. This is a fun industry use color and make your resume represent your personality.

Organize your resume. Some models do print, promotions, runway or commercials so put these into different categories. Modeling agencies like to see everything that a model has done but if it is all bunched together it is hard to find.

When it comes to a modeling or promotional resume make sure you include all of the things listed above. A model's resume should be detailed, easy to read and unique. If you don't have a promotional resume make sure you make one asap because this is a requirement in the modeling industry.

Once again healthy hair comes from the things that you eat and what you put into your body. Here is a list of a few foods that every model should eat to keep their hair healthy.

1. Carrots. Carrots are full of Vitamin A which is great for your scalp and vision.

2. Low- Fat Dairy. This is great for your skin and hair, great source of calcium which is necessary for healthy, strong hair. Models are known for carrying snacks in their bags, throw a yogurt, cup of cottage cheese or string cheese in your bag for a healthy snack.

3.Whole grains. Whole grains are great for a model's hair and skin because it contains Zinc, Iron and B vitamins. Whole grain snacks are great for boosting a model's energy on long, busy days.

4.Eggs. Eggs have tons of protein and B-12 vitamins. B-12 vitamins and biotin are important beauty nutrients.

5. Beans, salmon, chicken and turkey. These foods are all high in protein and mandatory for healthy hair.

Eating these healthy foods will give you the shiny, healthy hair that you have been looking for. But this isn't all you can do do get model like hair. Here are a few do's and don'ts when taking car of your hair.

DO get your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks. Hair can grow a little less than an inch every month so get regular trims for a healthy look.

DO try and use an organic and natural shampoo and conditioner. These products should be all natural and without chemicals. Chemicals can damage a model's hair.

DON"T use hot tools everyday. This can cause a lot of damage to any model's hair. Try air drying your hair or braiding it to create waves. Blow dryers, curling irons and straightners can cause serious damage.

DO deep conditioner your hair once a week. You can buy a deep conditioning treatment at any store. Models sometimes need to really conditioner their hair after a runway show so they sleep with a deep conditioner in their hair overnight.

DON'T use products that add shine. These products contain silicone which can coat your hair and is hard to get out.

DO try and cover your hair in the summer. Your scalp and hair can get sunburned and can lead to more damage to your hair.

DO use a shampoo that is made for your type of hair.

Summer is almost here and that means minimal styling. Here are a few hair styles that all of our Chicago models will be wearing this season.
