Pink Avenue Models received a call from one of our models last week that needed some advice, so of course we helped her. Our model was trying to get her name out there and approach multiple modeling agencies which Pink Avenue Models recommends doing. She came across an agency that asked her to pay to have her pictures on their website and thought that was a little weird. She called Pink Avenue Models and asked if this was common. The staff at Pink Avenue Models has been in the modeling industry for almost 10 years and has never heard of this. Models should never pay a modeling agency! Modeling agencies hire models for their clients so why would models pay to work? Pink Avenue Models hires models for trade shows, promotions, events, street teams, print ads and anything else the client may ask for and we would NEVER ask a model for money. We appreciate our models and know that we need models to run a modeling agency. If a modeling agency, staffing agency or talent agency asks you to pay for anything do not do it. There are a lot of great agencies out there but tons of bad ones too. Make sure you do your research on any agency that you plan on working with. The best way to find great modeling agencies is to ask other models. If you ever have any questions about other modeling agencies or anything to do with the modeling industry feel free to call us at Pink Avenue Models (312) 993-7991.

Beauty Tip Of The Day
Breakouts happen to everyone, even models. Having a case of acne is the last thing you want to deal with but it is also something that you can not avoid. Eating healthy, washing your face before bed, and wearing oil free make up will help models keep their skin clear but breakouts still may happen. Don't let a breakout ruin your day and lower your self esteem. I have found some of the best acne treatments out there. Some clear the breakout in 24 hours! Your Chicago based modeling agency, Pink Avenue Models has done their research today and found these products that should be in every models medicine cabinet.
1. Clinique Acne Solutions Spot Healing Gel. This product costs only $14! It works amazing!
2. Sonya Daker Drying Potion. This is a little more expensive and costs $25 but is well worth it. Tons of celebrities use this and couldn't live without it. This will cause your blemish to go away over night. It is made with dead sea sulfur, lavender, chamomile, sage & peppermint extracts.
3. Clearasil Ultra Pimple Blocker Pen. This is cheap, only $6 and should be kept in a models purse at all times.
4. Neutrogena On The Spot Acne Treatment. This product is super affordable, about $5 and works great! Models love this product because it works well without drying out the skin.
5. Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. This product costs $17 and is known as the product that you can not live without. This works fast and can heal blemishes over night. Can also be used on mosquito bites, razor burn and ingrown hairs.
Models need clear skin for their job but accidents to happen. Don't let a blemish ruin your trade show, promotion, photo shoot or your night on the runway. Use these products and your skin will be back to normal in no time.

Runway Looks That Promotional Models Can Use
When watching a runway show I think to myself... these models look great but I could never wear that in public. Well now you can. Models this fall will be wearing more natural looks and anybody can pull these off. Now trade show models, promotional models, and print models can bring a little of the runway look into their style. Here are a few looks that you will be seeing this fall.
* Pink cheeks. The idea is to look like you have been out in the cold. The best tip I can give is to use a sponge for blending.
* Short haircuts. Short hair is in this season and tons of models will be rocking this cut. Think short hair like from the 60's.
* Fake lashes. Only on the bottom this fall and we are not talking normal lashes, think more rocker with jewels.
* Monochromatic contouring. It's back and has to be done well or it will look scary. Eyes, cheeks and lips should all be similar color.
* Messy buns. This hair style has been all over the runway and is a very easy and classic look.
* Bright lips. This doesn't mean bright red but it does mean shades of reds and purples this season. Models should always remember that you can never have bold eyes and bold lips, it's one or the other.
* Colored eyeshadow. Just like the 80's these colors are back but are worn differently. Look for greens, metallics, purples and shades of blues this season.
Fall fashion 2009 is all about color. Big fashion cities like New York, Los Angeles and Chicago are going to be full of color this season. Models are going to look bright, shiny and gorgeous!

Advice For Trade Show Models
Yesterday Pink Avenue Models blogged about promotional modeling and what the modeling agency expects from its models. Today we thought that we should blog about trade show tips and what to expect when working a trade show. With tons of trade shows coming up we thought this would be the perfect time to give some advice to our models.
1. Show up to the trade show dressed to impress. When working as a trade show model you are looked at as the face of the company.
2. Smile and say hello to everyone that you see. Models are hired to attract people to the booth, stopping them as they walk by is a sure way to get them to come in and talk to the sales team.
3.Try not to network, this is not the time or place for models to try and get connections. Handing out your own business card in not acceptable.
4. Always bring a change of shoes. Standing in heels for 8,9, 0r 10 hours is going to be painful. Bring flats of comfortable shoes to change into while on your break or after your shift.
5. Bring lunch with you. Convention centers are not the best places to get lunch. You might find a McDonalds or a pizza place but it will be expensive and not that good. If you bring your lunch you can eat whatever you want and will have snacks for you breaks if you need them.
6. Bring a big bag on the last day of the show. There are a lot of food shows that want to get rid of everything on the last day and will give it to anyone that wants it. This is not guaranteed so do not get upset if you walk away with nothing.
7. No whining about how your feet hurt or that you are cold and uncomfortable. People will ask you if your feet hurt and feel bad for you. Always just smile and say something positive.
8. Trade show models should own a black dress, black blazer, black pencil skirt and comfortable but sexy heels. These are the most requested outfits for trade show models. Some shows ask for something different or provide the outfit but usually its something conservative but sexy.
9. Don't lose your badge. This is what gets you in the show day after day. Make sure you have it each time you leave the convention center so you can get back in.
10. Offer to help the client with anything they may need. This doesn't mean staying hours after the show to take down the booth but it does mean general assistance.
Trade shows can sometimes be a lot of fun and some are a little boring but models are there to make them fun. Trade show models are hired because they are beautiful, intelligent and fun so make sure you act the part.

Promotional Modeling 101
So you just booked an awesome promotion with a great modeling agency, whats next? Sometimes models get to the event and act like divas, that is unacceptable. Models are hired for looks and personality so when you are working you should meet the expectations of the modeling agency. Promotions are fun and easy work, follow these tips and you will be able to work in the industry for a long time. If you are one of the models with the diva attitude expect a short unsuccessful career.
* Know all the details of the event you are scheduled for. This includes date, time, attire, rate of pay, location, and always have directions to the event site. You should have an agency contact number as well as an on site contact number in case you have any questions.
* Show up to the event on time. On time in the modeling industry means 15 minutes early.
* Always show up to the promotion with your hair and make up done and always look your best.
* Keep a positive attitude the whole time you are working. It doesn't matter what is going on in your life at the time. Models are happy, smart, beautiful and fun people at all times. Leave the dramatic things for when you are not working.
* Stay off your cell phone unless you are done working or on a break. Clients hate this and feel that hiring you was a waste of money.
* Do not whine or argue with the client EVER! If you have a problem with how the event is going call the modeling agency that booked you.
* Offer to help the client. Modeling is a fun industry to work in but promotions are not always glamorous. Sometimes models have to get a little dirty but it's all part of the job.
* Have fun and remember to always smile.
Pink Avenue Models staffs promotions nationwide and these are some of things that we expect from all of our models. Remember these things when working your next event. Following these steps will keep the client happy and guarantee future work with the modeling agency that hired you.

Los Angeles - An Amazing City
Pink Avenue Models has a lot of models in LA and we wonder what is there to do in LA that we can't do in Chicago? We know that Los Angeles and Chicago both have great modeling agencies but what else does LA have? Los Angeles has warm weather, lots of famous people, great food and a lot of history. Pink Avenue Models has done there research and came up with a list of 10 things that you can do in LA for free. Free? Sounds crazy considering LA is more expensive than Chicago. If you have a trip planned to LA anytime soon make sure you do these 10 things, it will save you money and make your Los Angeles unforgettable.

* Visit NoHo ( North Hollywood) This area is full of art galleries, vintage clothing stores, outdoor cafes, live theaters, and amazing restaurants.

* Rodeo Drive! This is a must for anyone that works in the modeling industry or has an interest in fashion. This is also a great place to run into celebrities. A very expensive street to shop on but it's free to walk on.
*Drive on Muholland Drive! This is an amazing scenic drive and it goes from the Hollywood Hills all the way through Santa Monica.
* Beach! There are so many amazing beaches in the LA area including the well known Venice Beach. Bring your swim suit, sunglasses and relax. There will be tons of things to see at Venice Beach.
* Downtown LA Art Walk! This has some of the best art work in the city. This happens the second Thursday of each month and is a great experience. It's more than looking at art.
* Go see the next big bands! A lot of bands get their start in small venues. The Viper Room, The Knitting Factory, The Mint, and Spaceland have shows all the time.

How To Get Younger Looking Skin
One thing that all models are required to have is clear skin, this is a must in the modeling industry. Some models are born with great skin and some models have to fake it. Pink Avenue Models has done their research and this is what your Chicago modeling agency found... tips on getting everlasting healthy, glowing, young looking skin. Follow these tips and you will look younger than ever.
*Eat pomegranate seeds. Pomegranates are full of ellagic acid which block UV- induced free radicals that can cause wrinkles. Studies say that drinking one glass of pomegranate juice a day or eating a cup of pomegranate seeds can smooth fine lines.
* Use sirtuin activating creams. These creams will help repair DNA damage. Make sure that the creams that you buy have Vitamin B and resveratrol.
* Buy make up that has firming peptides, antioxidants and hydrating hyaluronic acid. Your make up shouldn't just cover imperfections it should help your skin at the same time.
* Avoid wrinkles. Some wrinkles will obviously come with age but there are ways to prevent them. Smoking and drinking are the number 1 cause of wrinkles. Exposure to the sun is another wrinkle causer as well as pulling on your skin and wearing too much make up. The skin on your face is sensitive and thinner, it needs to be touched carefully.
* Eat foods with antioxidants. This means fresh fruits and vegetables, anything with vitamin E.
* Exercise at least 3 times a week. Exercising releases toxins and free radicals.
Follow these few steps for healthy, young looking skin.

Perfect Model Make Up- Smokey Eyes
Models usually have a make up artist for photo shoots and runway shows. Promotional models rarely get the VIP treatment of having a make up artist. One thing that all models should know how to do themselves is the smokey eye. This look is great for runway shows, print ads, trade shows, liquor promotions or just a night on the town. With these simple steps all models should be able to nail this look and it should take only 5 minutes!
* Use a primer so your eye make up won't melt into the crease of your eyelids.
* Next use eyeliner. You can use black, grey or even purple if you are looking for a bold look. Line your lash line.
* Next fill in your lower lash line. This should not be as dark as the top liner. Eyeshadow is recommended for the bottom lash line. It is lighter and goes on easier with a smudged look.
*Next use a light shimmery eyeshadow from lash line to brow bone. Light pinks, purples, and greys are recommended.
* Now use a darker color from lash line to crease. Do not go above the crease with a dark eyeshadow. It's too much! Make sure that the shadow goes over the eyeliner, it blends better.
* Last step, mascara and lots of it! Use a dark mascara that promises to add volume. If you are looking for a bolder look you can use colored mascara, purple or blue will really make your eyes pop.
These steps will give models the smokey look that they are looking for. Remember when going with the smokey look that you should keep your lip color simple. Bold eyes and bold lips is a little to much. This look is perfect for a night on the town, guys won't be able to keep their eyes off of you.

Is It Possible To Be Too Pretty?
Have you ever been told that you are to pretty to work? Can models be too pretty for the modeling industry? The answer is yes! Every client has a look that they are going for and that look is sometimes a very natural looking person, someone that doesn't look like a model. This happens in promotions, trade show modeling, print, commercials and all other types of modeling. The main reason is that very attractive people can come off as intimidating and unapproachable. Next time you show up to a casting play it simple, natural make up, simple hair, covered up but still sexy and use your personality. Think the "girl next door" look. Being too pretty sounds like it may be impossible but it's a reason why some models are not booked for certain jobs. Models should take this as a compliment and move on to the next job.

Are You Working As A Model Or BA??
How to tell if you are working as a promotional model or brand ambassador...
Promotional models are expected to show up with hair and make up done and present themselves as a model.
Promotional models wear cute dresses and are required to wear heels.
Promotional models usually have every expense covered for them including parking, lunch, hotel rooms, travel expenses ect.
Promotional models work awesome events and experience VIP treatment.
Brand ambassadors are required to look presentable but are never asked to show up looking glamorous.
Brand ambassadors usually wear a mens sized t-shirt , gym shoes and a hat.
Brand ambassadors pay for their lunch, parking and any other expenses.
Brand ambassadors also work awesome events but have to work a lot of sampling and street team events.
