Get Booked, Know The Brand, Turn In Paperwork

Pink Avenue Models gets calls for tons of different events, trade shows, street teams, liquor promotions, print ads, and everything else. Some jobs are booked based on images and some are booked on images, experience and phone interviews. Every client has an image in their mind of what they need for their event, some events are laid back and some are a little more strict. Before you agree to working a promotion make sure you know what you signed up for. Feel free to ask your modeling agency any questions.

For some promotions clients will request a conference call, some ask to hold a training session and some just send talking points to us and we forward them on. The main idea of any promotion is to represent the brand you are promoting the best you can so know what you are promoting. You should have product knowledge and memorize key facts. You should never say anything negative about the brand or any of their competitors. Promotional models should be friendly and honest, if you don't know an answer don't make anything up. There is always someone onsite that can answer the tricky questions. Always smile and have fun!

After the event some agencies will require you to send in a time sheet, or receipts. Make sure you know ahead of time if they client is paying for parking. Get your paperwork in asap so it doesn't interfere with being paid on time. Keep these things in mind and you should have a successful event.

Promotional Models List Of What Not To Do

The modeling industry is known to be fun, exciting and unique. The people in this industry should have personality, be laid back and really enjoy their position. There are not many things that can upset us at Pink Avenue Models but there are a couple. Here is a short list of things that models should not do.

  1. Don't pull a no call no show. Clients specifically choose which models they want to work with. When you don't show up it ruins what the client has planned, makes you look unprofessional, makes the agency look bad and prevents you from booking future work. This is the worst thing any model can do.

  2. Don't call last minute saying you can't make it to work. Please be aware that agents have heard every excuse, anything from you being sick to a death in the family. It's hard for us to believe anything. If you say you are going to work please keep your commitment.

  3. Don't call and ask about your check. We pay within 3 weeks usually which is fast in this industry.

  4. Don't forget to turn in your paperwork. We contract every model and need a W-9 Form from everyone. Checks can not go out without these documents.

  5. Don't show up in the wrong attire. All the event details are always sent to the staff, please read them.

  6. Don't show up late. 15 minutes early is on time.

  7. Don't talk bad about the client, competitor products, the agency you are representing or the other promotional models. Keep all negative comments to yourself.

  8. Don't ask to take left over product home. If the client offers than you can accept but begging for free stuff is tacky.

  9. Don't ask the client to pay for lunch or parking. Some clients provide these things and some don't.

  10. Don't contact the client after the event. Any questions should be directed to the modeling agency.

Remember those things and your modeling agency will be grateful.

FAQ - How Do I Become A Model?

Pink Avenue Models gets calls and emails everyday from people interested in the modeling industry. The most common question is how can I become a model, or how do I get my kid into modeling. Honestly, Pink Avenue Models is a Chicago based modeling agency that staffs events nationwide. Our focus is in promotional modeling with the ability to provide models for print, video work and anything else the client requests. Models interested in runway and being managed should contact other agencies. We would love for you to submit your info to us as well but know that there will be limited work in those areas from our agency.

If you are interested in being a promotional model the best thing to do is get some pictures taken and submit your info to promotional staffing agencies and marketing companies. Send it to as many as possible, the more agencies that have your information means the more work for you. Remember that just because you are available for the event does not mean that you will get booked. This is a competitive industry and you can't get booked for everything.

In the promotional modeling world we expect the models to have personality and the ability to talk to everyone. Yes we want them to be beautiful and smart as well but we could care less about height and maximum weight of 110. We want fun girls! Submit if you are interested, we look forward to working with you.

Advice From 1 Promotional Model To Another

Sometimes promotional models have too much going on. Maybe you have multiple events in one day or back to back trade shows and no free time. The number one tip I can give to models is be organized, prepare ahead of time and be ready. Here are a few things I have learned over the years that prevent me from being stressed.

  1. Prepare ahead of time. Have your attire ready, onsite contact's number saved in your phone, directions ready, and all of your paperwork sent. This prevents you from being late, getting lost or forgetting your contact's info.

  2. Always leave early, especially the first day of your event. On time means 15 minutes early. You never know how parking will be, how traffic is, or how hard it will be to find the exact location of your event. Being late is very unprofessional and makes you look bad.

While you are at your promotion there are a few things to remember as well.

  1. Always help the client with whatever they need, go above and beyond their expectations.

  2. You are hired as a model, you were picked because you are beautiful, intelligent, outgoing and fun. Act like this at all times. If you are having a bad day nobody should ever know. Complaining is no fun for anyone.

  3. Bring a pair of flats to change into after your event. This will be the best thing after standing in heels all day, it will feel like heaven.

  4. Always have snacks with you. Promotional models never know when they will get a break. Bring things you can eat easily throughout the day and make sure you stay hydrated. Always take care of yourself.

  5. Always have fun! This industry is very selective and you should always feel lucky to be able to work these events.

  6. Don't take things unless they are given to you, never ask...it comes off as greedy.

These are a few things that I thought of, these tips have helped me through many events. Our industry should be fun and not stressful. Have fun at all of your events, I'll see all of you in the field!

Photo Shoot Tips

I feel like I've been blogging about pictures and photo shoots a lot lately but I can't stress how important your pictures are in this industry. Pictures are the first thing that grabs the clients attention, second thing would be your personality during the phone interview. As we always say we want natural, fun, live pictures. We don't want tons of make up, lots of photo shop or anything to artsy and we definitely do not want nude. Clients want to know what the models will look like when they show up to their event. Here is a small list of things to bring to your next photo shoot and a couple things to remember. Good luck, send me your new images!

  • Jeans

  • Plain tank tops

  • Plain t - shirts

  • Accessories! (these can really change a photo)

  • Shoes, as many as you can fit in your bag

  • Dresses

  • Bring things you have no ther place to wear. Animal print, shiny leggings, glotter tops. These can add a touch of color without being to over powering.

  • For those of you that do lingerie bring color, a lot of photographers hate black and white

  • Have an idea of what you want to shoot when you arrive. Talk things over with the photographer before so you guys are on the same page and there are no surprises when you arrive.

  • Hire an MUA. This is the best thing you can do, they know how to make you look amazing.

  • Make sure you sign the agreement and have a time frame of when to expect your pictures.

  • When you get your images send them to agencies that you work with frequently so they can update your profile.

  • Make sure you get a head shot, body shot, and a smiling picture. These are what clients want to see.

I hope these tips help. Good luck, can't wait to see your new pictures.

Increase Your Chances Of Being Booked

We get a lot of calls and emails from models asking why they weren't selected to work an event. Our clients are always looking for something different, some want bilingual, some want blonde, some brunette, some tall, and many other requests. The best thing to do is not blame yourself, you can't be booked for every event you apply for. This is a very competitive industry. There are a few things that you can do to give yourself a better chance.

The main thing is make sure that your pictures are good and up to date. We want pictures that are natural and not sexy. Clients usually request professional and conservative attire so sending tiny bikini pictures make them see you in a different way. Skinny jeans, plain tank top and heels is a classic look that shows your body without showing to much. Make sure we have a head shot, body shot and candid picture. We send all of these to our clients.

Some clients ask to have phone interviews with models they are interested in. Always be yourself, show personality and let them know that you would be a great addition to their team. They are looking for beautiful, smart, fun and reliable models. If you are nervous or boring chances are you will not get picked. Sell yourself!

Don't get discouraged. There are millions of promotions and a client looking for your look. Good luck, hope to work with everyone soon!
