Las Vegas Trade Shows - November 2017
I can't believe we are already into November, where did time go? As we all know Las Vegas is one of the busiest cities when it comes to booking trade shows but this month is pretty slow. Vegas will be slow when it comes to trade shows but will be busy when it comes to events, promotions and special events. Here is a look at trade shows taking place in Vegas this month.
Autodesk, Inc. - University (AU). November 14 - 16.
Live Design International. November 17 - 19.
If you need trade show models for these conventions or any other event please contact the team at Pink Avenue Models. We can be reached at 312.834.5200 or by email at info@pinkavenuemodels.com for more information.

Hairstyles for Your Summer Events
I am sure that I have mentioned this numerous times in the last 8.5 years of owning this company. I don't like Summer. If I could skip a season it would be Summer. There is something about being consistently sweaty no matter what you do that I don't like. My least favorite thing about working as a promotional model was working in the Summer, which is extremely busy. I remember receiving emails that would tell us to have full hair and make up done upon arrival...It's 95 degrees and extremely humid in Chicago, that isn't possible! Summer in Chicago can be amazing, there is always something going on which is amazing for events and promotions. Being promo ready the next couple of months is going to be a challenge but hopefully this article will help. Here is a link to 31 different hairstyles that are adorable, will last all day, and keeps your hair off your face.

There is More to Life Than Work
This article popped up today and it caught my eye. I recently had a birthday and I swear every birthday I evaluate my life and question if I am making the right decisions. I also wonder if I am where I am supposed to be at my age. A lot changes as you age and one of the main things is the types of conversations that you start having with your friends. I always tell my friends that I want to be happy in life and that I want to help others. Some of my friends say they want more money, better cars, bigger houses. We all want different things but I think there are a few things we all want, a life of health and happiness.
This article doesn't really have anything to do with promotions, trade shows, or events. I know a lot of promotional models get asked what their real job is, or what will they do when they grow up. Being a promotional model is a full time job! Promotional models are smart, beautiful, hard working and chose this profession to have a flexible schedule. They have time to love, be healthy, be happy, and have a great work/life balance. That is what this article is about. I hope that I am alive and active at 100!

More Weird Beauty Products. Do Not Try These at Home!
Today I have decided that we are not talking about trade shows, promotions, events or promotional models. It took me a while to find something to blog about but when I saw this video it just felt right. It is so expensive to be a woman, especially a woman in this industry who is booked based on their looks. Sorry, but it's true.
Women pay to get their hair cut/colored. Women pay for make up. Women pay for clothes, shoes, undergarments for those clothes, accessories, work clothes, work out clothes, going out clothes, and the list goes on and on. Women pay to get their nails done, go tanning, skin care, waxing, and a lot of women pay for cosmetic surgery. It's expensive. Not only is it costly to be a female but there is a lot of pressure to be a certain size and look a certain way. When I saw this video I just giggled. I couldn't believe that these area actual products on the market. Every time I stop in the health and beauty isle or go to Ulta I can't believe how many products there are. I have used the same things my whole life, I guess I keep it basic.
Watch this if you need a laugh!

Something Fun/Interesting to Read
I saw an article today and it really has nothing to do with Pink Avenue Models, trade shows, events or promotions. It doesn't really have anything to do with promotional models either even though I know a couple that have been on the show. I can honestly say that I have watched the Bachelor a couple times in my life, I don't love it, I actually hate the way they make the girls look so crazy. Is it entertaining, yes. I also find it annoying. I saw this article pop up on social media today and I read it, I actually find it shocking. I know the contestants get paid for their time on the show, I don't think it is much. I do think it is crazy that these women are expected to arrive with enough dresses for 10 rose ceremonies, I don't have a single gown that I could wear and wouldn't want to buy 10! Dresses are expensive. On top of the 10 gowns they are expected to have clothes for all types of dates.
Here is the link if you want to read about this:

Holiday Party Outfit Ideas!
After looking at this Pinterest thread I am officially in the holiday spirit! I want to wear everything that I just saw. I know Thanksgiving is just days away, Christmas will come fast and then we go straight into New Years Eve. That is 3 outfits not including Friendsgiving, work holiday parties, and other special occasions. The team at Pink Avenue Models talks about trade shows, promotions and events almost every day of the year so it is fun to be able to do research on other things that are still beneficial to promotional models. Take a look at these outfits and start shopping! Send me any good deals or new stores that you learn about. Enjoy!

Most Haunted Cities In America
The world is not a fun place right now. I am over hearing about the election, I still cant believe these are our two options. I hate logging on to social media and seeing the Kardashians every single day. I am getting to the point where I want to delete my social media all together. The best thing about leaving the country is that I can turn off my phone, stay away from work emails, ignore social media and enjoy my surroundings. We usually write about promotional models, trade shows, events, promotions, and beauty tips but I don't want to today. It's October and will be Halloween soon so I thought this article was fitting. I have been to half of these cities and live in one, I had no idea Chicago was so haunted.

Perfect Beach Waves
Summer has officially arrived and it is hot. In Chicago we spend about 9 months wishing it was Summer but when it actually arrives I start looking forward to Fall. Summer is great for our industry when it comes to work, it is definitely busy for promotional models. There is some type of event every weekend on top of promotions and trade shows. It is a great time to make money but a hard time to look your best. I have a ton of hair and struggle with it in the Summer, I usually just end up throwing it in a messy bun. I love the beach wave look but can never get it to look as good as everyone else. Today I found an article that offers many ways to achieve this look. Looking forward to trying some of these examples!

Best Sunscreens for any Promotional Model
It is FINALLY getting warm in Chicago which means everyone is headed to the beach and street fests. Summer is the busiest season for promotional models here because there is so much going on. There will be a ton of outdoor events and promotions this Summer and we want all of the models to carry sunscreen and be prepared. Here is a list of the best sunscreens out there.
http://www.cosmopolitan.com/style-beauty/beauty/advice/g3973/best-new-sunscreens/
My favorite didn't make the list. It is called Sun Bum and it is the best that I have ever used. It is available at Target, Ulta and probably many other stores. It's vegan too!

Why Have Promotional Models Changed the Past 10 Years?
I started working in this industry when I turned 18. I started as a promotional model for Miller Lite and other liquor brands. From on premise samplings I headed into special events, trade shows, and other promotions. When I started I worked with smart girls, most had marketing backgrounds. They were pretty and always showed up with their hair and make up done. They were professional, educated on the brands, and very outgoing. This was 14 years ago and my have things changed.
I'm still involved in the industry but in different ways. Promotional models are not the same as they were when I was working events. The staff doesn't care about the brands or the client/agency, they just care about the paycheck. Models are late and show up like they rolled out of bed. They are not as outgoing and most have bad attitudes. When did things change and why?
Promotional modeling is supposed to be fun! Models get to work at some of the biggest events in the country and get paid for it. They get paid well to! When you are hired you are expected to show up on time, study up on the brand, be energetic and engaging, put effort into your appearance and respect the client, staffing agency and attendees. Lets work together and be better at this!

Fall Fashion - 2015!
It definitely feels like Fall in Chicago and that has inspired our post for the day. The team at Pink Avenue Models loves Summer, it's a busy season for us but not as busy as the next couple months will be. Cooler weather is on the way which means new fashion and a time for change. This is when people start changing their look and wardrobe, we kind of have to. I definitely don't recommend most of these looks for promotional models at trade shows, events or promotions because they are pretty extreme. It's fun to see what fashion designers come up with. Enjoy!

The Top 10 Excuses We Have Heard From Promotional Models
This article made me laugh. Working in the promotional modeling world has taught me a lot about people and has definitely made it hard for me to believe any excuse we receive. When we book promotional models for trade shows, events or promotions we hope that they follow through and show up for work. In this industry if a model wakes up and doesn't want to work or books something better they usually give us a lame excuse. The modeling agency cant really do anything about it. We have to find a replacement which usually upsets the client and we always ban them from further work. There are so many staffing agencies now that models have no problem screwing one over because they know they can get hired from another company. This is a list of excuses to give instead of just bailing and I feel like we have heard all of them. I hope you find this list as funny/annoying as we did!

Model Submissions
I know that the team at Pink Avenue Models had written about this numerous times but we keep getting the same wrong submissions. We look for promotional models that are experienced and professional. We want models that are interested in working trade shows, events, and other types of promotions.
When submitting online there are a couple of things that we look for. Please use your real name not your stage name. Also, use an appropriate email address. When we see your email and it's inappropriate or you're calling yourself a queen or a bad bi**h its an automatic turn off. Please submit 4 different pictures like the fields ask for and upload a resume with promotional experience. We only work with models 18+ so keep that in mind as well. We do not manage talent and models work as independent contractors, we won't make anyone famous. Keep this things in mind when filling out your submission.
We are always looking for new talent and hope to work with you soon!
