How To Get Booked In The Promotional Modeling Industry!

The team at Pink Avenue Models gets tons of calls and emails a day asking random questions. Potential models want to know how they can get in to the modeling industry. Promotional models that are part of our team want to know how they can better their chances of being selected by clients. We get pretty much any question that you can think of and we like to give answers to the best of our ability. Here are a few of our tips for working in this crazy industry.

  1. Send professional and candid pictures along with an updated resume to as many agencies as possible. (Always keep your pictures and resume up to date, we hate pictures from 6 years ago.) The more companies you receive notifications from the more work you can get.

  2. Use all your resources to find work. Use Craigslist, Facebook, Model Mayhem, Marketing Rockstar, and Twitter. Yes, companies send out notifications but they also post on tons of social media sites.

  3. Be reliable. As soon as you back out of an event, get a bad review, cancel last minute or do not finish the event the agency looks at you as unreliable and you will probably not get booked again.

  4. Be awesome! When you do a great job and your agents hear amazing things about you they will be more likely to refer you to their clients.

  5. Don't over book yourself. Yes, the money can be amazing but being tired and overworked ruins your performance at events. Working to much takes the fun out of it and you are more likely to show up with a bad attitude. We all need our free time.

These are a few things that I have learned from working in the industry, follow these tips for a successful career. This industry has so much to offer and so much opportunity. Promotional models can work trade shows, street teams, special events and can even travel as part of mobile tours. Happy promoting!

Eat These Items And Lose Weight

We all want that perfect body but lets be honest, working out, dieting, and eating healthy is not that fun. We want the easiest ways to stay in shape, and that is what we have found. Summer is coming soon and that means smaller clothes, bikinis and all eyes on you. The team at Pink Avenue Models found an article today that will help all of our models get bikini ready. Here is a list of foods that help burn fat. Enjoy!

  1. Chicken breast. It's full of protein which will keep you fuller longer and helps maintain muscle mass.

  2. Greek yogurt. This has more protein then regular yogurt, protein is necessary for weight loss.

  3. Green tea. This contains nutrients that will speed up your metabolism.

  4. Eggs. Another protein packed food.

  5. Cold water. Drinking cold water expends energy which burns calories.

  6. Chili pepper. Add this to anything for the spicy, fat burning affect.

Here are a couple things that can be part of a daily diet that taste amazing but burn fat. Eat up!

Busy Season Is Ahead, Don't Stress

Things are starting to really pick up in the promotional modeling world and we want to stay relaxed and make sure our models aren't stressing out. This season thousands of models around the world will work multiple promotions a day, work up to 16 hours a day, and possibly work numerous 3 or 5 day events. The money is great and being is busy is awesome if you can handle it all. Here are a couple things that will help you stay focused and less stressed. Remember stress can lead to many other problems and some can be pretty serious.

  1. Get active. Go walk, run, work out. Anything that will keep your mind off of work or personal issues.

  2. Meditate. Focus your attention on the positive things.

  3. Laugh. Laughing causes positive physical changes in your body.

  4. Become social, this will distract you, offer you support and make you feel better. That is what friends and family are for.

  5. Don't over book yourself. Know when to say no, money is great but your free time is necessary.

  6. Sleep. This is needed to recharge your brain and body. Sleep has a huge effect on your mood.

  7. Write down everything you need to do so you don't keep thinking about it. Once something is written down you tend to think about it less.

  8. Listen to music. It's another mental distraction and mood lifter.

Hopefully these steps can help you during the busy season ahead. Try not to over book yourself, that's when the stress really kicks in.

Promotional Models, Do You Own These Items?

With busy season approaching fast the team at Pink Avenue Models wants to make sure you are ready! The attire for promotions is pretty standard, trade shows are usually business professional, liquor promotions require black dresses or black skirts with a branded top, and street teams usually ask for khaki pants/shorts. Promotional models should always have a classic pair of closed toe black patent leather heels, a pair of white gym shoes, and a pair of comfortable flat shoes. Once and a while the attire will change and most of the time the attire is provided. Just make sure you have this list of items in your closet so when you get booked for the event you are all set!

  1. Khaki pants/shorts

  2. Black pants/shorts

  3. Black cocktail dress (sexy but not revealing)

  4. White gym shoes

  5. Black ballet flats

  6. Black closed toe heels

  7. Black mini skirt

  8. Blazer

  9. Long sleeved white shirt for layering

  10. White collared shirt

Having these 10 items in your closet should keep you prepared for most events. Every client is different and has a different image in mind. We are so excited for all of the events that will take place in 2012!

Eeeeekkkkk! Bikini Season Is Almost Here!

Spring has arrived quite early in Chicago, tomorrow will be 80 degrees! Midwest weather is so unpredictable, it could be snowing by the end of the week. However... seeing 80 degrees in the forecast made me think bikinis and beach, then it made me realize I'm not ready for that! Promotional models are always eating on the go and eating when they can which isn't the best. Here are a few tips that guarantee that you can shed 10 pounds by Summer, and they are minor adjustments. Next time you think about eating chips, candy, drinking soda, eating pizza and anything else you know is bad for you just think about the tiny bikini you will be wearing in a couple weeks. All of the bad food is ok in moderation, not daily.

  1. Eat breakfast! This will get you started and get your metabolism going. You should consume most of your calories before noon.

  2. Cut your sugar consumption. Sugar turns to fat.

  3. No more soda or fancy coffee. If you drink one of these a day that can add up to a 17 pound weight gain in a year.

  4. Drink water. Water is so necessary for the body, it cleans out the toxins and prevents weight gain.

  5. Eat. Don't think about what you can't have just eat more of what you can have. Think fruit, vegetables, and whole grain.

  6. Use spices to flavor your food, not butter or fatty oils and dressings.

  7. Eat less at meals but eat more meals. You should eat about 6 times a day.

  8. Always have snacks. The best snack is nuts... almonds, peanuts, cashews.

  9. Don't eat after dinner. Your body can't burn those calories off over night.

  10. Watch your alcohol intake, it's unwanted calories that can add up fast.

  11. Find an activity that you enjoy doing and you won't think of it as a work out. Biking, dancing, walking, yoga.

  12. Find a friend that shares the same goal. You will motivate each other.

These 12 tips are easy! Don't think of it as a diet, think of it as simple life changes that will benefit you forever not just now.

America's Beauty Show was just in Chicago and it still has us talking. The ABS is heaven for girls and any promotional models that get to work the trade show. This show has everything you need to be pretty. Think any hair product, make up, spray tan, nail polish, staightners, curling irons, stylists, and anything else you need to look amazing. After being at this show it made us wonder what products are necessary and worth investing in. Here is a list of some of the best beauty products of the year, invest asap!

  1. St. Ives Collagen Elastin BodyPolish

  2. Nivea My Silhouette Redefining Gel-Cream

  3. Aveeno Skin Relief Shower & Bath Oil

  6. Olay Regenerist Touch Of Foundation

Take The Perfect Promo Picture!

One thing that is a known fact is that promotional models take tons of pictures. Pictures are required for most events, it's evidence that the event went on, it's necessary for recaps, and client reports. Have you ever taken a picture and then asked if you could see it because you want to make sure you look good in it? Well read these tips and you will never have to doubt yourself again, you will be a picture pro.

  1. Never take a picture straight on, always angle your body. It makes you look slimmer.

  2. Use your body, arch your back, put all the weight to one hip.

  3. Remember head down, eyes up. It's the best angle for your face. Tilt your head, never straight.

  4. Keep your shoulders relaxed, if you are tense it will show in the picture.

  5. Whatever parts of your body are closest to the camera will look the biggest. Keep that in mind when posing.

  6. The reason we always have our hand on our hip is because it slims our arms. If your arm is flat to your side it looks double it's real size.

These simple steps are so easy to follow and once you've taken pictures like this a few times it will come naturally. Happy picture taking! You will be a pro in no time.

Beauty Mistakes To Avoid!

I just read an article from Allure that I found pretty fitting for this industry. Most of our clients want to hire female promotional models to work their trade shows, street teams, liquor promotions or special events. The girls are hired to promote, demonstrate and educate consumers on a specific brand and a lot of times the target demographic is mostly male. This article lists all of the beauty mistakes that guys think women make. When going to your next event keep these things in mind and try to avoid them since they are looked at in a negative way from the male audience.

Here are the complaints from a survey of guys:

  1. Too much perfume. No more then 3 sprays.

  2. Foundation. Guys hate that this rubs off on your clothes, his clothes, and that it looks obvious. If you have to use it use a lightweight version.

  3. Overdone eyelashes. Too much mascara or obvious fake lashes are a turn off.

  4. Dry skin. There is a lot of hand shaking, and posing with your arms around people in this industry. Keep your skin soft.

  5. Not so white teeth. There is so much smiling in this industry, make sure you take care of your pretty smile.

  6. Orange skin. If you're going to fake a tan keep it natural.

  7. Too much product in your hair. There is nothing worse then stiff, untouchable hair.

  8. Dark eyeshadow. The smoky eye can be sexy if done right, too much looks scary and high maintenance.

  9. Bright lipstick. Keep it natural.

  10. Hair accessories. Guys do not like extensions, feathers, or anything else in your hair.

  11. Dark, neon, or printed nails. Keep it light, natural and simple.

I have said it a million times... natural is always best. Too much make up, intense hair all comes off as over done and high maintenance. Keep it clean and simple and show your natural beauty.
