Size 6 Means Plus Size??

The team at Pink Avenue Models loves doing research and coming across interesting articles. While browsing the web today an article came up that caught my eye. As we have always said there are tons of different kinds of modeling, we focus mostly on promotional modeling which has limited restrictions. We do have some clients that have a specific look or size in mind but usually our clients just want smart, beautiful and outgoing models. This video is more about print modeling. Basically they are saying that they are using size 6 models to display plus size clothing, plus size is usually a 14 and up. They said that models these days are 23% smaller than the average woman. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes so it will always bother me that this industry has so many restrictions. Here is the link to the video, how do you feel about it? http://shine.yahoo.com/fashion/did-size-6-become-plus-size-122500787.html Team Pink Avenue

Simple Reminders For Our Promotional Models

I had the chance to go and check on one of our street teams yesterday and noticed a couple things. The team at Pink Avenue Models blogs all the time about what we expect at promotions, tips for promotional models and anything else that can happen at an event. Here are a few things that I noticed yesterday.

  1. It was 95 degrees outside and some of the team didn't own khaki shorts. Khaki shorts are a necessity for Summer events, get some asap!
  2. The team was outside for 7 hours and were not given water. Yes the team was given a break mid day but we always take about how important it is to stay hydrated. Bring your own water because the client isn't expected to provide it but most do.
  3. Stay positive. There were multiple people complaining while they were working even though they all knew what they signed up for.
  4. Make sure you know your brand facts. Some of the team was handing out samples but not saying anything. Your job is to promote a product, you have to know brand knowledge.
  5. Stay in your location, don't wander on your own.
  6. Do not make your own break schedule. You are being paid to work, not wander around and take breaks. This isn't fair to your team.
  7. Don't ask to take product home. If it is offered that is ok.
  8. Follow normal event rules. No swearing to consumers, come dressed and ready to work, follow your team leads directions, and stay off your phone.
  9. Smile, you never know who is watching. These events are made to be fun!

Remember these simple tips for a successful promotion. We want only the best people representing us and our clients.

Beauty Secrets For Every Model

The team at Pink Avenue Models spends a lot of time booking trade shows and events. We also spend a lot of time doing research, finding the best outfits, seasonal trends, health tips and beauty secrets. Here are 12 beauty secrets that are simple but make a huge difference. We know that promotional models have tough schedules and some of these tips will save you time as well. Beauty is an expensive and sometimes painful thing but definitely required in this industry.
  1. Layer your eyeliner. Use a pencil first and go over it with liquid eyeliner, it will last longer and won't smudge.
  2. Use brown napkins instead of blotting papers. Works way better and will leave you shine free.
  3. Buy a conditioning masque for you hair to leave it angel soft. Sleep with it over night and wake up to amazing hair.
  4. For a smokey eye that isn't to dramatic use black liner on the top and brown on the bottom. It will leave a softer but noticeable look.
  5. Heat your eyelash curler. This will leave lashes even curlier for longer.
  6. Drink tons of water. It's so good for you and amazing for your skin.
  7. Instead of foundation and powder in the Summer use a tinted moisturizer.
  8. I say this all the time... wear sunscreen daily! Buy a moisturizer that already has it mixed in to make it even easier to remember.
  9. Wear your hair up more often. Saves you time, protects your hair from heat damage and looks awesome.
  10. Constantly use chapstick. Get one with SPF to protect your lips from the sun.
  11. If your nails are dyed from dark polish use a nail brush and whitening toothpaste to clean them.
  12. Keep your make up brushes clean. Bacteria is make ups worst enemy.
Keep these tips in mind the next time you are shopping for beauty supplies or getting ready, you will thank us later.

Weight Loss Tips! It's Bikini Season!

It's almost 100 degrees here in Chicago and Summer has officially arrived. Swimsuit season is here, are you ready? Let's be honest, promotional model's schedules are extremely busy this time of year and our eating habits aren't always the best. Here are some tips to help you lose those unexpected pounds you may have gained so you can be bikini ready. Good luck!
  1. Take a multi vitamin.
  2. Watch less tv and become more active.
  3. Snack smartly. Avoid the junk food.
  4. Use smaller plates. Portion size in America is way oversized.
  5. Eat spicy food. It speeds up your metabolism.
  6. Lower your carb intake.
  7. Do some kind of cardio 5 times a week.
  8. Avoid artificial sweetners.
We give health and weight loss tips all the time. A lot of these are common sense but simple reminders. Eat healthy, stay active and you'll be proud to wear your bikini.

Booth Babe? I Think They Meant Trade Show Model!

Another article talking about "booth babes" was just published and let's just say it wasn't very nice. Every trade show is different, some are really conservative, some are fun and laid back so it makes sense that attire for trade show models is never the same. This article was recently published about E3, which is a gaming convention. To summarize the long article it basically was saying that models in little amounts of clothing take away from the show and offend other women at the show. People think that they should promote the game more and not use attractive women to promote games that they know nothing about. The article goes on to say that the hired models are uneducated about the product and use their looks and bodies to attract consumers but it's ineffective. I have worked over 40 trade shows in my time and never once have I had to wear an offensive outfit or have I been called a booth babe. Obviously I have seen models that have worn seductive outfits but that was their choice and they were comfortable with it, and definitely grabbed attention. Every company has an image that they want to portray and some of them think that sex sells, and it probably does. This article is saying that girls are clueless about the brand they are promoting and I have to say that a lot of clients spend a lot of time training the models. A lot of our clients have the models arrive early to have a training session or send over product knowledge for the staff to review before the show starts. People forget that most trade show models are highly educated with college degrees in various industries. I found this article to be very offensive to this industry because I see this industry in every way, not just as a visitor to one trade show. These girls work hard, and work a lot, most people couldn't handle a promotional model's schedule. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I obviously disagree with this article for many reasons. I don't think people should judge these models until they actually work in the industry and see how things really are. Congrats to all of the models that work in this industry and do well, it's not easy. We appreciate all of your hard work! Model Necessities!

Let's be honest, most women love shopping for clothes, accessories and beauty supplies. Sometimes we splurge and sometimes we go cheap. Here is a list of 10 items that every model needs to get ready, you can go expensive or get the cheaper version. Either way make sure you have these items, they are a necessity for all promotional models to look their best at their upcoming events. Have fun shopping!
  1. Blush. Adds instant color to your face and makes you look alive.
  2. Concealer. This will cover dark spots and blemishes. A must have!
  3. Anti wrinkle eye cream. I started using this when I was 18 and definitely notice how much it works. Prevents fine lines, puffiness, and brightens your skin.
  4. Red lipstick. This makes women feel glamorous instantly. Pick the tone that works for you.
  5. Beauty balm. This is magical! It covers blemishes while treating them. It's a foundation, primer, moisturizer and toner in one.
  6. Mascara. This can change your whole look. Who doesn't want long, thick, curly lashes.
  7. Dry shampoo. Models have busy schedules and sometimes don't have time to get completely ready. Dry shampoo will make your hair look cleaner without washing, conditioning, drying and styling.
  8. Deep conditioner. This is for all the styling that we do to our hair. This should be done 2 times a month.
  9. Face wipes. Sometimes we are lazy but sleeping with make up is the worst thing you can do to your skin. Keep these next to your bed.
  10. Sunscreen. Always have this with you, it's so easy to prevent skin cancer.
