We all know that Facebook is full of buzzfeed articles now, some are awesome and some make me wonder who would ever post something so weird. I saw this post yesterday and thought that it proves a point in our industry so of course we are going to talk about it. Have you ever worked with a promotional model that has amazing pictures then shows up to the event looking like she rolled out of bed? This made my day! I have extremely long hair and there are days that I don't have time to do it, or in Chicago there are humid days where nothing works. I admit it, I still have a yahoo account and I love it! Today I saw an entertaining article and of course I'm going to share it. Have you ever been at a trade show, event, promotion, or even a street team and one of the promotional models tells you that she is a model/actress? You probably laugh a little bit inside because she is doing the same thing you are and you would never say that because you probably have a marketing degree and understand that this is a temporary job. Anyways, there are those girls out there that tell everyone they are a model and try to brag about it, we call them divas. Lyft Street Team - Los Angeles

We teamed up with a new client for an amazing promotion at the beginning of the month. The models were hired to promote Lyft which is an app that offers cheaper, safer rides. They were working during First Fridays and interacted with hundreds of consumers while offering rides and passing out giveaways. Have Your Promotional Models Been Trained?

A lot goes into hiring staff for an event, more than anyone knows. Usually there are multiple parties involved. Sometimes it starts with a client, they hire a marketing agency, then that marketing agency hires a modeling agency, and then a model is hired. There are a lot of contracts involved, and requests coming from various people. We want to hire the best staff that we can, and as we've said a million times before we are picky about who we add to our database. Simple Reminders For Our Promotional Models

I had the chance to go and check on one of our street teams yesterday and noticed a couple things. The team at Pink Avenue Models blogs all the time about what we expect at promotions, tips for promotional models and anything else that can happen at an event. Here are a few things that I noticed yesterday.

1. It was 95 degrees outside and some of the team didn't own khaki shorts. Khaki shorts are a necessity for Summer events, get some asap!
2. The team was outside for 7 hours and were not given water. Yes the team was given a break mid day but we always take about how important it is to stay hydrated. Bring your own water because the client isn't expected to provide it but most do.
3. Stay positive. There were multiple people complaining while they were working even though they all knew what they signed up for.
4. Make sure you know your brand facts. Some of the team was handing out samples but not saying anything. Your job is to promote a product, you have to know brand knowledge.
5. Stay in your location, don't wander on your own.
6. Do not make your own break schedule. You are being paid to work, not wander around and take breaks. This isn't fair to your team.
7. Don't ask to take product home. If it is offered that is ok.
8. Follow normal event rules. No swearing to consumers, come dressed and ready to work, follow your team leads directions, and stay off your phone.
9. Smile, you never know who is watching. These events are made to be fun!

Easy, Flirty Summer Hairstyles

It's 80 degrees in Chicago right now and will be all week so obviously we are all thinking about Summer. Models all know that trying to style their hair in the Summer is not the easiest, especially in a humid city like Chicago. Here are a couple hairstyles that look awesome, are easy to do, and last all day. These styles are also appropriate for any type of event that you are booked for, trade shows, street teams or any other type of promotion.

1. Braids. You can wear 1 big side braid, add little braids to a messy bun, or turn a braid into a side bun. Its very flirty, sexy and easy.
2. Sleek and straight. Make sure you use a smoothing balm to keep the frizz away.
3. Bangs. Let them be messy and do their thing. Summer is suppose to be fun and care free.
4. Half back. This is an easy way to have your hair down with it out of your face.
5. Up, with a headband. This is a quick hairstyle that can look fancy if you add a skinny headband.
6. High ponytail. Curl it, shake it out and spray it.

These 6 hairstyles are so simple and look great. Think about them before you get ready for your next event, they can be dressy or casual. Have fun experimenting.

Successful Weekend In Chicago!

The team at Pink Avenue Models would like to take the time to thank all of the models that worked over the weekend and early this week. We had a very busy weekend and it wouldn't have been successful without our amazing promotional models. Hey Promotional Models - Get Spring Break Ready!

We are all conscious of our weight, especially with bikini season right around the corner. Promotional models never know if their attire is going to be a mini dress, polo shirt, short shorts, swimsuit top or anything else so they have to always be aware of their shape. Here are some tips I found to change in your diet . They are tiny things to change that can help you keep the extra pounds away. Next time you get a casting about a trade show, event or promotion that requires a smaller outfit than usual you will be ready! Follow these easy changes...

1. Drink water with lemon. The lemon speeds up your metabolism, and detoxifys the liver.


2. Listen to your hunger. Don't eat because you're bored, eat because you are hungry and need to. When you are full stop, overeating is a huge cause of weight gain.


3. Don't buy diet food. Buy food rich in nutrients that is good for you, not pre packaged meals that say they are good for diets.


4. Eat salad as a meal everyday. Sounds boring but add things you like and that are good for you.


5. Eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. If you never get too hungry you won't over eat.


6. Buy a juicer. Fresh juice is so good for you.


7. Eat nuts. Almonds, cashews, and walnuts are a great thing to have on hand.


8. Make sure you eat protein at every meal. This will help to keep you full longer and gives you energy.


9. Limit your alcohol intake. Calories can add up and you don't even notice.


10. Limit the carbs. Carbs are good for energy but can be very fatty when you have to many.


11. Substitute your condiments. Mustard for mayo is an easy switch.


12. Try new things. Healthy new things that is.

We all want to be healthy and these are some easy things to switch for great results. This industry is so unpredictable and you never know when or where you will be able to eat, I recommend always bringing food with you. Make sure you bring healthy snacks and put the chips, candy and soda away!

New Make Up Tips For 2012!

It's a new year, we all made resolutions and most of them probably have to do with looking and feeling better. Promotional models wear different looks depending if they are working a trade show, street team, special event, photo shoot or any other type of promotion. Here are a few make up tips to try this year, all very simple any model should be able to do it alone.

1. Red lips. If you wear a lot of color on your lips keep the rest of your face natural.


2. Pink cheeks. Very natural looking and easy to do.


3. Bronze/metallic eye shadow. Sexy and less dramatic then the smokey eye.


4. Glossy lips. This will always be in, nothing better then shiny lips.


5. Bronzer. Go 1 shade darker for a natural sun kissed look.


6. Fake eyelashes. These can be easy to apply but leave an amazing effect.


7. Single line. They recommend just lining the top lid with eyeliner, again very simple and natural.

All promotions require a different look but you can never go wrong with the natural look, people love natural beauty. Mascara, and lip gloss are a models best friend.

5 Things Promotional Models Should Do This Month

Since it's Winter and things tend to be a little slower during this season we thought we would make a small list of things for you to catch up on this season.

1. Update your pictures! We want to show our clients recent pictures of our models so take some time out and set up a photo shoot.


2. Update your resume. It's nice for modeling agencies to know your experience. We know its hard to update it after every event but try and keep it as current as possible.


3. Buy those items you're missing. Make sure that you have everything you could need for a promotion. Khaki pants/shorts, black dress, black closed toe heels, gym shoes, black pants, a blazer for trade shows. Every event requires different attire but these items are frequently requested.


4. Add yourself to more agency databases. The more companies that have your information, the more opportunities you will receive.


5. Take time to update your profiles on any modeling website or agency page. Update your pictures, resumes, stats, age, address or anything else that may have changed.

These things should keep you a little busier this season. It's best to keep things current, it will guarantee you more work and shows that you care about the industry you work in. Don't forget to send us your new info, pictures or resumes!

Updated Pictures Needed!

Things are starting to slow down since Winter is approaching which means more free time for the models! Since you won't be going promotion to promotion the next couple months make some time to update your pictures. The team at Pink Avenue Models receives tons of model submissions every week and we have seen tons of pictures, good and bad. It's important to keep your photos updated so the clients know what you look like currently, not years ago. Photo shoots are meant to be fun and a time to be creative and use an alter ego but we do want simple pictures, nothing to artsy. When we send a model's profile to the client for approval we send 3 pictures, a head shot, body shot and a candid photo so keep that in mind when you submit to modeling agencies. The head shot should be close up and the model should be smiling. The body shot does not have to be a bikini or lingerie picture, we prefer jeans a fitted shirt and heels. This will show your body without being too revealing. A candid picture can be you out, or working a promotion. The only request is that you are the only one in the picture. We understand that pictures are altered, photo shopped and can be changed dramatically, we ask that you send us pictures with minimal editing. Have fun at photo shoots, it's your one chance to wear things that you can't always get away with wearing. Not to mention you get to wear different make up and have great hair, it's a day to dress up and have fun. We can't wait to see your new pictures!

Stay Warm During Winter Events

We're well into the month of November and I have to say it's pretty cold and rainy here in Chicago. Although the weather is less then nice we still have outdoor events and street teams taking place and this will go on all Winter. How do promotional models stay warm?? Here are some tips of how to stay warm when it's freezing outside.

1. Wear layers! As many as you can. Chances are you will be provided with a branded t shirt so fit as many long sleeved shirts, sweatshirts and jackets as you can under it. Same with layering under your jeans, tights really help and multiple pairs of socks are a must.


2. Buy hand warmers and stick them in your shoes as well. They stay warm for hours and really help.


3. Drink warm liquids, hot tea, hot chocolate, and coffee.


4. Take breaks and go inside, any event manager will understand that staying outside for hours is crazy.


5. Keep moving, this will keep your body warmer.


6. Stand in places that block the wind or are in the sun if possible.


7. Bring gloves, a scarf and a hat. Cover as much of your body as possible.

Don't forget to bundle up, it's the only thing that will keep you warm in this Windy City. Remember to take care of yourself, if it's too cold take breaks and warm up. If you know that you don't do well in the colder temperatures avoid signing up for these events because the promotion still has to go on. Stay warm, have fun!
