Bad Habits For Your Brain
I came across this article this morning on MSN and thought it was worth sharing. We talk about trade shows, events, promotional models and this industry a lot. I also try to squeeze in beauty tips, health advice and occasionally a rant. In the end we want to make sure that everyone takes care of themselves and is enjoying what they are doing.
I found this article and thought it would be beneficial to many. We all have bad habits and while clicking through the pictures I am guilty of quite a few. Reading articles like this helps me get back on track. I hope you enjoy it like I did!

Holiday Outfit Ideas!
Does everyone love the holidays? I put up my Christmas tree today and have plans to head downtown to see the Macy's window displays, have a drink at the Walnut Room, and stop by Chriskindle Market. I'm obsessed with the glitter and lights of the holidays. I also love the pretty make up and outfits! I think every girl likes to get dressed up and feel beautiful. I feel like a lot of the trade shows and events that promotional models work tend to cover them up in t shirts and pants, what happened to pretty outfits?
Here is a pinterest board full of holiday outfit ideas! This put me in the mood to shop!

Holiday Make Up Ideas
The holidays are coming, Thanksgiving is only 10 days away! Everyone is a fan of holidays, and we all have different reasons, mostly because we have off work and see our friends and family. I love holidays for a ton of reasons but one of them is I love dressing up and everything about holiday attire is sparkly. I'm usually pretty basic when it comes to make up, I barely wear any. Looking through this Pinterest board definitely makes me want to try some of these looks the next couple of months. If any of our promotional models feel like getting creative for their upcoming events here are some ideas!

What Happens When You Don't Show Up To Your Scheduled Event
It's time for another Pink Avenue rant and tonight I am furious. I will never understand why promotional models back out last minute, don't show up, or send a text message minutes before an event with an excuse that I have heard a million times. I can not stress how many people are inconvenienced by someone's actions. Here is a break down of what happens when someone doesn't work the shift they agreed to.
The clients plans are ruined. You were hired for a reason, to do a job, and to assist the client with their event. Sometimes it is impossible to find a replacement, especially last minute. Example: The last time NACS was in Chicago our agency staffed 70 models for the event, 70. It was impossible to find replacements, this is a huge show and almost every booth needs assistance.
You make me and our company look horrible and unprofessional. I can't even count all of the clients that we have lost because of the actions of promotional models. I am great at communication, I have a degree in it. I make sure to send you all the details you need, the contact info, keep in touch throughout the booking and send a reminder email. We are all adults and I shouldn't have to hold your hand through the process, but I do.
You ruin your reputation. We all talk and if you screw us over I will try my hardest to make sure that you do not do it to a coworker or friend. I have been in this industry for a long time and it's how it goes. We want the best, not unreliable staff.
You ruin the day. NACS started today and instead of paying attention to other clients, new business, and the daily tasks I spent hours trying to replace you. It's selfish.
I have said this a million times, this industry is fun but it is a job and can be a career for some. If you do not want to work, are unprofessional, unreliable, and have a history of messing around with agencies you do not belong in this line of work. We want outgoing talent that enjoys working and needs to make money. I remember what it was like when I first started, I worked everything because I had to. I lived in downtown Chicago and had to pay bills, rent, car payments, groceries, gas & electric, cell phone, internet, student loans and a credit card. I wouldn't turn down $500 dollars from a fun trade show.
The point is... be better. It is not acceptable to do the things that promotional models do, it isn't fair to the agency, client or the rest of the team. It is time consuming to book events. There is a lot of back and forth contact with the clients and the models, the contracts on all ends, it all takes time.
It's now 10pm and I am still working on finding replacements 12 hours later. Thank you.

Experiential Marketing is Here to Stay
For years I have had people question the industry that I work in. I think it's one of those things that most people don't understand unless they work in this industry as well. It looks like experiential marketing is bigger than ever and is here to stay. I can't stress how important this is for any company. The whole point of this industry is to educate people on a brand, leave a lasting impression, create an unforgettable experience, and hope that this turns into a sale. Promotional models are a huge part of this, it wouldn't be the same without them. Ad Week posted an article this week about how experiential marketing is growing and is going to continue to grow. The link is in this post if you want to read it!

It's Time for Another Pink Avenue Models Pet Peeve
It's time for another Pink Avenue Models pet peeve! The team does most of the staffing in house, we have a database of thousands of models from all parts of the country. These models have been chosen based on experience, photos, and recommendations. These are the models that we trust and reach out to when we have an event in their area. Sometimes we need help and use the job boards on social media sites, it happens. I am currently staffing for a trade show and most of the models are booked, this happens every time no matter where this trade show is located. Almost every exhibitor hires talent, we hired over 70 models the last time this convention came to Chicago.
With all of this said, we posted on a job board this week so we could find new talent. We laid all of the details out, the name of the event, the location, the dates/hours, attire, rate of pay, responsibilities and even mentioned that you must be available for all dates and times. What responses did we get in return? Promotional models said they could work 2/3 days, promotional models said they could work part of the day but would have to leave early, promotional models asked for travel even though we mentioned this is for local talent only. We should not receive these responses. We only work with talent 18+, everyone is capable of reading and following directions. This is very frustrating for the agency and our client. When you tell us that you are available we submit you to the client and if the client selects you and you're suddenly unavailable it doesn't look good. The point of this post is to rant a little bit but to remind people in this industry to read the posts all the way through!

When Is It Time To Leave The Promotional Modeling Industry?
A friend of mine worked a trade show the other day and she realized that she in no longer interested in working in this industry. She said standing there for hours and hours was extremely boring, the comments from the male attendees were disrespectful and uncalled for and she felt like she wasn't respected and was looked at as just a pretty face. The pay was $50 per hour and that didn't matter to her anymore. She felt like a piece of meat and that she was hired to be stared at. I listened and could completely relate. I had the same feelings and knew it was time to move on. When I first moved to Chicago I booked every trade show and event that I could, I never said no to work. One day I realized that I was in my early 20's and I wasn't going out with friends, I wasn't meeting new people, I wasn't dating, and I wasn't living in a city that I paid so much to live in. The guys I did meet didn't want to date a girl that was in bars or at events getting hit on all the time. I felt alone and that made me work more so I would at least feel busy. I missed out on bachelorette parties, birthday parties, and hanging out like all of my friends were. I finally realized that working and making money wasn't going to make me happy. I want to work to live not live to work.
The reason for this blog is to encourage people to do what makes them happy and if you aren't happy with what you are doing change it! My friend was miserable at the trade show and realized that she wants more and has outgrown this industry. She's worried that she has spent so many years working as a promotional model that it will be hard for her to get into something more corporate. Thoughts?

An Odd View Into the Promotional Modeling Industry
A friend of mine posted this article on social media today and of course I had to read it. I love the promotional modeling industry, I have worked in it for many, many years. This industry is so much more than pretty girls and nice bodies. I've worked hundreds of events and I can say that I have never worn anything inappropriate, felt slutty or guilty about what I was doing. This article was hard for me to read. I started working events when I was 18 in Wisconsin and always looked at it as an opportunity to get experience, have fun, make money, and meet people. Maybe there are girls that look at it as a competition, a way to get attention, or an opportunity for conflict, but I never did. I used this industry as a stepping stone to gain experience, open my own agency, and do some pretty amazing things. I was excited to read this article and I think it would be a whole different scenario if promotional models that I know were interviewed. Any feedback?

White After Labor Day?
I remember hearing the rule that you can only wear white between Memorial Day and Labor Day but I never understood why. I still don't know the answer so of course I asked Google. According to the internet the rule started at the beginning of the 20th century and was started by the rich. It was another fashion rule created by the in crowd, a way to tell the rich from the middle class and the poor. This rule was created over 100 years ago. Of course you can wear white after Labor Day, it is 2017 and this rule should no longer apply. It is more about fabric than color, we wear what is appropriate. This left me wondering why promotional models are always required to wear black to events and trade shows. I love white and wear it often, black would be my last choice!

Pick Your Employers Wisely
I know we have blogged about this before because it has been a consistent problem in this industry. Last night I saw a post on one of the job boards about companies not paying their staff, ignoring their calls/emails, and treating their staff poorly. I have seen this happen so many times. We all know that I started as a promotional model, I started when I was 18 in Wisconsin. I knew early on that I should stick to the companies that I trusted, paid me on time, and appreciated my work. Just like everyone else, there were times when I was desperate and booked any job I could. I've chased money, I have not been paid by companies and given up, and I have also been treat like $hi! by marketing managers, those NYC women are the worst!
When we started Pink Avenue Models almost 9 years ago I told my partner that I wanted to be different. I wanted to be the agency that was available at all hours, the agency that paid well and paid on time, and I have always had the promotional models best interest in mind. I did what models do, I worked long hours, I skipped lunches, I worked every single weekend while my friends had fun, I dealt with the stupid comments, I worked while I was sick, and I waited and waited for paychecks. Promotional modeling is a different kind of industry, we all know that, there are highs and there are lows.
Please, please learn from your mistakes and listen to others. When I first started I asked other models about trustworthy companies, this is how I found the best agencies. We are living in a time where social media is powerful and we should use it. Promotional models are very vocal on these job boards, if they are struggling to get paid from an agency you shouldn't work for them. You also shouldn't take jobs that are paying $14 per hour, you are more valuable than that. The industry is changing and I don't think it is for the better.

Promo Models Be Like...
I saw this picture on one of the FB job boards last night and had to repost it. I remember the flexibility of working as a promotional model. I definitely remember waking up, not looking so amazing, and then having to go full model mode with hair and make up. Working trade shows and events definitely takes some effort.

NACS 2017 - Chicago!
NACS is one of my favorite trade shows and it is finally coming back to Chicago! The last time NACS was in Chicago we staffed 75+ promotional models, it was one of our busiest weeks. This is a fun trade show for the models to work. The clients are relaxed, music is playing, there are a lot of fun uniforms and the hours are not long. Almost 24,000 people will be attending this convention. Anyone that works in the convenience and fuel retailing industry will be at this event. This trade show will take place at McCormick Place October 17 - 20. Clients are already booking for this event, save the dates!

How Much Longer Will the Promotional Modeling Industry Last?
I have had this thought for a while but I've been thinking about it more and more lately. Are we working in an industry that is slowly dying? For example, an agency that I worked for just let their whole Chicago staff go today. The past couple years were slowing down for them and it came to the point where it wasn't worth it anymore. I know that I have mentioned the job posts that I see on social media, the pay is incredibly low. I still receive emails of job invites from other agencies and the pay is $16 - $20. How can anyone in a big city survive on that? Being a promotional model costs money. We are expected to be educated, beautiful, and have a promo ready wardrobe. In return promotional modeling agencies offer $16 per hour?! No way!
Years ago when I first moved to Chicago I was making a ton of money. I would book back to back trade shows and make thousands of dollars a week. That isn't possible anymore. I deal with clients and they all have different budgets but I think many of them are unaware that promotional models should be paid well. I'm not giving up on this industry yet but I do think it is slowly dying and may not exist in a couple of years. The end of experiential marketing is near.

Hairstyles for Your Summer Events
I am sure that I have mentioned this numerous times in the last 8.5 years of owning this company. I don't like Summer. If I could skip a season it would be Summer. There is something about being consistently sweaty no matter what you do that I don't like. My least favorite thing about working as a promotional model was working in the Summer, which is extremely busy. I remember receiving emails that would tell us to have full hair and make up done upon arrival...It's 95 degrees and extremely humid in Chicago, that isn't possible! Summer in Chicago can be amazing, there is always something going on which is amazing for events and promotions. Being promo ready the next couple of months is going to be a challenge but hopefully this article will help. Here is a link to 31 different hairstyles that are adorable, will last all day, and keeps your hair off your face.

There is More to Life Than Work
This article popped up today and it caught my eye. I recently had a birthday and I swear every birthday I evaluate my life and question if I am making the right decisions. I also wonder if I am where I am supposed to be at my age. A lot changes as you age and one of the main things is the types of conversations that you start having with your friends. I always tell my friends that I want to be happy in life and that I want to help others. Some of my friends say they want more money, better cars, bigger houses. We all want different things but I think there are a few things we all want, a life of health and happiness.
This article doesn't really have anything to do with promotions, trade shows, or events. I know a lot of promotional models get asked what their real job is, or what will they do when they grow up. Being a promotional model is a full time job! Promotional models are smart, beautiful, hard working and chose this profession to have a flexible schedule. They have time to love, be healthy, be happy, and have a great work/life balance. That is what this article is about. I hope that I am alive and active at 100!

Summer Style Tricks for Promotional Models
Yesterday was the official day of Summer and it sure feels like it here in Chicago. Summer is my least favorite season of the year, if I could skip it I would. Summer clothes don't fit my body, I hate sweating, and my hair and make up just don't work. Not to mention I tan easily which throws off my wardrobe and skin care line. Summer here can be disgusting and that is why I choose to stay indoors those days. Unfortunately Summer is extremely busy when it comes to trade shows and events. Every weekend there is a music fest or street fest and tons of promotional models working. I found an article today that might help keep you cool this Summer.

What is the Worst Uniform You Have Worn at an Event?
This is a question that I have been meaning to ask for a while. The worst uniform that I have ever worn is either a pea colored dress or a jumpsuit that looked like it was made for a prisoner. The green dress was an awful shade of green, extremely long and fit horribly. They wanted us to wear these in a nightclub in downtown Chicago. The prisoner jumpsuit wasn't much better. It was huge, unflattering, black and didn't make any sense for the event. I've worked a lot of trade shows and events and most of the uniforms have been fine and fit the theme of the event. My question of the day is what is the worst uniform that you ever wore for a trade show or event?
When I googled this question this is the first image that came up. It isn't that bad and looks like it fits the theme of the event!

Don't Make These Sunscreen Mistakes at Your Next Event
Summer temperatures have arrived in Chicago and that means tons of outdoor events. The number of trade shows slows down and the number of outdoor events/street fest/ and music fests go way up. I wear sunscreen everyday and have still been sunburned. Please be careful when working outdoor events. Stay hydrated, reapply sunscreen, and make yourself a priority. I saw this article today and thought it was a perfect reminder for all of the promotional models out there.

Why Do Promotional Models Back Out Last Minute?
I wish I could count the number of last minute cancellations/no shows on one hand but I can't. Why does this happen? Why would any promotional model just not show up to work? Do they not need money? Do they not how important it is to be professional? Did they find something better to do? I don't know the reason but I have seen it happen when I worked trade shows and events and unfortunately it has happened while running a promotional modeling agency. This is not my fault, it is the model's fault but the client takes it out on me. What the client doesn't know is that every model is contracted, given final details, followed up with numerous times, and sent a final reminder that asks for confirmation. I do everything that I can. I have said from the beginning of my events career that if a promotional model is going to cancel/back out of an event to at least be an adult. Take responsibility and actually call the agency and tell them. Tell them the truth! We would much rather hear that you booked something else, are no longer interested in working, or whatever the reason is. PLEASE do not send me a text at 2am telling me you have a family emergency. PLEASE do not tell me that you woke up sick or that you got in a car accident. Definitely do not tell me that you called/emailed/text me when you didn't. I have a work number, a work cell phone and a personal cell phone, there are many ways to get in touch with me.
You may be wondering where this is coming from this time. We had an event earlier this month with a repeat client. The client called me an hour before the event saying that he received a text from one of the brand ambassadors saying he wasn't coming to the event and that he had told me that days ago. Obviously the client is pissed and accuses me of ignoring the situation. If someone backs out of an event the first thing I do is look for a replacement and ban the person that backed out from our database. The decisions of this promotional model made the agency look bad and made me look unprofessional and unable to handle my job. This is the reason for the rant today!

Use Social Media Wisely
I think one of the best feelings in the world is leaving the country and not being able to use your phone for texting, social media, or checking work emails. At least once a year I visit my friends at their lake house in Canada and it's the best weekend of the year. We are outside 90% of the time, we watch the stars, go boating, hiking, lay on the dock and just enjoy being friends. This is the weekend that I forget about life, work, bills, and focus on having fun and enjoying life. It is so refreshing to not see the news or anything on social media. This is something I feel like I need to do. I can say that coming back and facing reality is always hard the first couple of days.
I decided to go back to school for another degree and we studied the reality of what social media does to people in one of my classes. It is depressing and gets to everyone, but most people don't notice. I found an article about ways to keep social media a pleasant experience and thought I would share it. I follow a lot of people in the promotional modeling world on social media and a lot of it is selfies but a lot of it is posting just for attention. I do like the posts about trade shows and events that the promotional models are working! Please review this article and remember to not believe everything you see on social media and to post wisely!

Flashback Friday! Maxim Beach Party!
After a couple hours of delays I am finally back in Chicago. When I landed there was freezing rain and crazy winds. I had a Winter jacket on and kept thinking that it was April and this shouldn't be happening. Today I thought it was appropriate to look back at some of our warm Summer events. This event was amazing! Maxim and Jose Cuervo sponsored the AVP Tournament on North Avenue Beach. Outdoor events are a great alternative to the trade shows that promotional models are used to. The team at Pink Avenue Models is hoping for more events like this during the Summer!

Work for Agencies That Respect You!
My friends have been posting amazing things to blog about this week! Thank you! A friend posted this article yesterday and I have seen it before and have the same thoughts about it. I feel like this article is based on common sense but I see how others will disagree. There are different types of people and some of us are nice, empathetic to others and want to treat people with respect. Sometimes money gets involved, egos get big, and priorities change. Even though the audience of this blog is catered to promotional models working events and trade shows it still applies.
I have worked with well over 50 promotional modeling agencies in the past and I learned a lot of them are awful. They don't pay on time, they don't communicate unless they need something, they ignore your emails/texts and they disrespect you because they feel like you are beneath them. I can say from experience that I made more as a model than anyone made working a 40 hour week in a marketing/promotional agency.
This article basically says that people leave because they feel that they aren't treated properly. Why would you work for someone that over works you, doesn't appreciate your work and doesn't respect you. The worst type of leader is the type that dictates orders and doesn't participate. I want to learn from my boss not be bossed around. Know that you should be treated with respect in your work place and you should enjoy going to work most days.

It's Tax Time! Here is What You Can Expense.
Tax time is an extremely confusing time for anyone in the promotional modeling/acting industry. When I first started I didn't know that I could expense anything. Then another promotional model shared her secrets with me and I have saved every receipt since. There is still time to pull together all of your receipts and submit them to your accountant. Make sure you find someone that understands what your job is. It can be expensive working trade shows and events, make sure you expense what you can.
Here is an article that will help you with those deductions.

The Truth Behind The Modeling Industry
A friend posted this on her Facebook yesterday and most of it wasn't shocking. I started in the modeling industry at a young age and luckily I knew that I wouldn't make a lot of money and that this career would be short lived. I went to college, earned two degrees and now do modeling as a hobby and a way to be creative. Can you imagine working all day on set and getting 10 - 20% of your day rate? How do you live off of that? You don't, you are forced to borrow from your agency which gives them the power. As the article says, they know the models won't do anything about it.
This article is sad and I would think it's going to discourage people from getting into the industry. The team at Pink Avenue Models receives a lot of calls from potential models and the first question is about how much we will charge them. Stick to trade shows and events, at least you know you are getting the pay you earned!

Best Clothes for Your Next Photoshoot
I love the color white, it is my first choice when getting dressed. My favorite outfit is a white t shirt, jeans and flip flops or a cute sandal, it fits my personality I guess. Back in the day when I did a ton of photo shoots I would want to wear white and every photographer would tell me how bad it is on camera. It's true, it made me look even more pale and just doesn't look good in pictures. As a promotional model you are expected to have professional and candid photos that are used to book trade shows and events. Here are a couple tips for your next photo session!

How Pictures Can Come Back to Haunt You
I can relate to this article and I know a lot of other promotional models probably can to. When I was in college I bartended on the weekends, then was recruited as a promotional model which led to events, trade shows, photo shoots and print modeling. At the time I was so excited about all of the opportunity because I was 20 and not thinking of how it would make finding a career challenging. I posed for every mens magazine out there, Maxim, Stuff, FHM and even placed in the top 100 out of 1 million in a Playboy competition. At the time I was proud and it is still fun to think that I did all of those things but finding a career was impossible.
I studied Marketing in college. I thought that it would be a career path that would allow me to use my personality, creativity, challenge me and would always be changing. That is all true. What I didn't think about was that most of the hiring teams would consist of women, women that google your name and find out everything about you. With so many social media outlets now this has to be even easier to find dirt. I'll never understand what posing for magazines has to do with my education or ability to work but it definitely has made things difficult. After college I moved to Chicago and landed an internship at a promotional modeling agency, moved up to the position of Director, quit and started Pink Avenue Models. I applied for numerous jobs with lots of companies and didn't even get a reply. This wasn't because my lack of education, I had a 3.96 GPA from a great school, have social skills, great work ethic and like to be the best at what I do. These companies will never know that because they didn't give me a chance to show them.
When I saw this article today I could relate to her story and the constant fear of those pictures being leaked. It isn't anything that I would ever deny and I'm not ashamed but it's not something that I want determining my future. It is actually something to be proud of, not everyone is published in magazines. The topic is something that I talk to the younger generation of promotional models about, I want them to know what they are getting into.
I hate how women are treated in the work place. If they are pretty they are judged and harassed, if they are overweight they are talked about, if they don't wear make up they are sloppy and lazy. Can't women just be women? Is it okay for women to be smart AND pretty? What would happen if men were judged EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. What if we brought up their past? Here we are again with the double standard.

Pick Your Promotional Modeling Agencies Wisely
The promotional models are at it again on social media. Today I saw a post on the Brand Ambassadors of San Francisco that talked about all of the new companies popping up. It's true, I have seen so many new companies the past couple of years but most of them don't last. You can only get away with screwing over the talent for so long. With new companies comes trust issues and of course payment issues. It is relatively easy and very affordable to start a promotional modeling agency. I think some are more trustworthy than others and that is what makes an agency great and long lasting or unfair and temporary. The main priority when it comes to a promotional modeling agency should be the promotional models, you can't run an agency without them.
The post today was about working with unknown companies and having to fight for payment. We all know that you can make great money in this industry but sometimes you don't get that money for 90 days, and sometimes you don't get that money at all. Fighting for your money is annoying and happens way too often in this industry. What is happening is these agencies are booking clients, then booking models and not paying them, they are keeping the money and sadly get away with it. I wish there was a simple situation to this problem but there isn't. Promotional models want to work events and trade shows and they want to work a lot. My only advice is to stick to agencies that you know and have worked with in the past. Do your research! Ask other people in the industry if they know of the agency offering work, google them, the more you know the better.
Be smart! Good Luck!

ITW 2017 - Chicago!
It has been a long time since we have brought up the past but today is Friday and we're going to take a look back at past events. ITW is a convention that takes place in Chicago every May. We have staffed promotional models for this show for many years and the trade show keeps getting bigger and bigger. Here is a picture from last year when the team made the magazine!

Happy National Women's Day!
Today is a great day and seeing posts from strong women around the world is so inspiring! Of course there are the asshole men out there trying to take this day away from us, I saw those tweets, FB posts and crappy comments on Instagram. We won't let that get to us, those are the guys that don't know what a woman is worth. (Insert middle finger emoji here)
This picture sums up everything that I want to say today. Enjoy!

Plastic Surgery is on the Rise
I saw an article over the weekend and at first I was surprised but then I thought about all of my friends that have had work done and it made sense. According to this article there were almost 1.8 MILLION cosmetic surgeries done last year. I think that is a lot. These surgeries consist of breast implants, lipo, nose jobs, and facelifts. This number does not include the simpler procedures like lip injections or botox, but there were 15.5 million of those procedures done last year.
Last week we blogged about the pressure and expectations of being a woman. We mentioned that it is expensive and frustrating to try and liv up to these standards. Promotional models are expected to show up to an event or trade show hair and make up ready but investing in all of these plastic surgeries is not expected! Be you!

5 Ways to be Happier at Work
The big topic today is about the Oscars, obviously. There were a lot of pretty dresses, a lot of exciting, some disappointing moments, and a show that started amazingly with Justin Timberlake but ended with everyone asking WTF? It was a long show but I don't regret watching. Now that we have that out of the way we can continue our daily conversation about the promotional modeling industry, trade shows, events and promotional models!
I saw an article on LinkedIn today and thought it was worth sharing. I meet a lot of people and work is always a topic that comes in. For the most part I wake up daily happy and excited to work in this industry. Of course there are bad days but those are easily forgotten. Here are some tips from one of the best entrepreneurs out there. Life is too short to be stressed and unhappy with work. We weren't born to just work and pay bills.

More Weird Beauty Products. Do Not Try These at Home!
Today I have decided that we are not talking about trade shows, promotions, events or promotional models. It took me a while to find something to blog about but when I saw this video it just felt right. It is so expensive to be a woman, especially a woman in this industry who is booked based on their looks. Sorry, but it's true.
Women pay to get their hair cut/colored. Women pay for make up. Women pay for clothes, shoes, undergarments for those clothes, accessories, work clothes, work out clothes, going out clothes, and the list goes on and on. Women pay to get their nails done, go tanning, skin care, waxing, and a lot of women pay for cosmetic surgery. It's expensive. Not only is it costly to be a female but there is a lot of pressure to be a certain size and look a certain way. When I saw this video I just giggled. I couldn't believe that these area actual products on the market. Every time I stop in the health and beauty isle or go to Ulta I can't believe how many products there are. I have used the same things my whole life, I guess I keep it basic.
Watch this if you need a laugh!

WHAT Happened to the Pay Rate in This Industry??
Is it just me or has the pay gone down in this industry. The team at Pink Avenue Models is all over social media and we see all of the job postings on FB and I can't remember the last time that I saw a posting for more than $18 - 20 per hour. I have seen this for in store demos, special events and trade shows! This is a problem. Pink Avenue Models will turn 8 in 2 days and we have worked with hundreds of clients. We have a lot of clients that respect the promotional model position but we do get clients that think they should be paid pennies, deserve unpaid lunch and won't reimburse parking. These are the clients that request supermodels for $10 per hour. We do not work with those clients. As an ex promotional model my first priority is our staff. I think that treating your staff is important. They deserve to be paid well and paid on time. Being a promotional model is not easy work. Imagine standing for 8 hours in heels while smiling and having pointless conversation with strangers while being harassed and having to prove that you are more than a pretty face. That is an average day at a trade show.
Something has to be done, this pay rate is way to low for what the job entails.

Something Fun/Interesting to Read
I saw an article today and it really has nothing to do with Pink Avenue Models, trade shows, events or promotions. It doesn't really have anything to do with promotional models either even though I know a couple that have been on the show. I can honestly say that I have watched the Bachelor a couple times in my life, I don't love it, I actually hate the way they make the girls look so crazy. Is it entertaining, yes. I also find it annoying. I saw this article pop up on social media today and I read it, I actually find it shocking. I know the contestants get paid for their time on the show, I don't think it is much. I do think it is crazy that these women are expected to arrive with enough dresses for 10 rose ceremonies, I don't have a single gown that I could wear and wouldn't want to buy 10! Dresses are expensive. On top of the 10 gowns they are expected to have clothes for all types of dates.
Here is the link if you want to read about this:

Time for a Pink Avenue Rant
It's time for a rant. This has happened a couple of times recently and it has happened in the same city. I worked as a promotional model for many years and am still heavily involved in the industry. I see the social media posts, I have friends that still work and I am aware of how much promotional models should get paid. Working trade shows and events for many years gave me a clear understanding of the pay range. Working as a promotional model for many years gives promotional models that work for Pink Avenue Models an advantage because I will always be on their side and try to do what is best for them. We pay fast, we pay within range and we are very careful about what events we agree to work on and what uniforms are appropriate.
We send out detailed castings to see who is available for certain jobs, the pay rate is listed on there. Models tell me that they are available and then ask for more money. I'm confused, you told me you were available and then asked for more money when the client wanted to book you? This is when I have to agree that some people in this industry are divas and take the title model way to far, Mariah Carey attitude.
To sum things up... a client has a budget, we stick to that budget and offer local talent work, they agree to work for a set rate. That is where it ends. If you ask for more money you are eliminated from that position. We book hundreds of events a year and have for almost 9 years, we know what we are doing.
