More on NBAA!
Last week the team at Pink Avenue Models blogged about the NBAA trade show coming up in Las Vegas. We also took a look back at previous NBAA events. We are currently staffing a large team for the event coming up this October and today one of our brand ambassadors sent a picture that we have to post. Here is a picture from the last NBAA event in Las Vegas!

Why Do Promotional Models Back Out Last Minute?
I wish I could count the number of last minute cancellations/no shows on one hand but I can't. Why does this happen? Why would any promotional model just not show up to work? Do they not need money? Do they not how important it is to be professional? Did they find something better to do? I don't know the reason but I have seen it happen when I worked trade shows and events and unfortunately it has happened while running a promotional modeling agency. This is not my fault, it is the model's fault but the client takes it out on me. What the client doesn't know is that every model is contracted, given final details, followed up with numerous times, and sent a final reminder that asks for confirmation. I do everything that I can. I have said from the beginning of my events career that if a promotional model is going to cancel/back out of an event to at least be an adult. Take responsibility and actually call the agency and tell them. Tell them the truth! We would much rather hear that you booked something else, are no longer interested in working, or whatever the reason is. PLEASE do not send me a text at 2am telling me you have a family emergency. PLEASE do not tell me that you woke up sick or that you got in a car accident. Definitely do not tell me that you called/emailed/text me when you didn't. I have a work number, a work cell phone and a personal cell phone, there are many ways to get in touch with me.
You may be wondering where this is coming from this time. We had an event earlier this month with a repeat client. The client called me an hour before the event saying that he received a text from one of the brand ambassadors saying he wasn't coming to the event and that he had told me that days ago. Obviously the client is pissed and accuses me of ignoring the situation. If someone backs out of an event the first thing I do is look for a replacement and ban the person that backed out from our database. The decisions of this promotional model made the agency look bad and made me look unprofessional and unable to handle my job. This is the reason for the rant today!

Don't Cancel Last Minute
I don't know how many times I have written about no call no shows or backing out last minute but it happened again. I don't think promotional models know how big of an issue this is and how it puts everyone in a bad place. Here is an example of what happened late last night.
IMTS is one of the biggest trade shows in the World and definitely one of the biggest conventions that comes to Chicago. One of our clients booked a model months ago and I made sure to follow up with her numerous times to make sure she had the dates set and planned on working. I reached out to her over the weekend with final details and she responds saying she is no longer available. This was 11 hours before IMTS was starting. IMTS is one of the busiest trade shows, pretty much every local model works and many travel in for this event. Most models have been booked for months so imagine how hard it is to find a replacement at 10pm on a Sunday. I reached out to our local staff and posted on the brand ambassador pages on social media and as you can imagine I barely received any response. At this point I am extremely annoyed, the client is furious and the situation isn't getting any better. As I am spending hours working on this the model isn't thinking about the situation at all. The worst thing that happens to her is that I delete her from the database and she never works with us again. We did find a replacement after hours of back and forth emails with models and the client.
Promotional models don't understand that this costs the agency thousands of dollars, ruins our reputation and makes our clients go elsewhere. Promotional modeling is a profession and can be a career. This can only happen with reliable, professional, outgoing and intelligent models that care about their reputation and appreciate the opportunity given to them. The moral of this blog is... if you book work, plan on working.

The team at Pink Avenue Models has been working with one of our repeat clients the past couple of months. There is a huge campaign going on and we have had brand ambassadors working events all over the East Coast. Our staff has been hired to encourage people to sign up for the race and educate people on the cause. It is Friday so here is our flashback picture of the week.

ABS 2014
The team at Pink Avenue Models has received tons of emails about the 2014 ABS. Companies are looking for models to cut and color their hair, tall models to walk the runway, models to demo spray tanning, models for make up demos, brand ambassadors to hand out samples, and so many other positions. ABS will be taking place at McCormick Place March 22 - 24 and we can't wait. This is every promotional models favorite show. There will be famous hair stylists, every hair, make up, nail, tanning, beauty product on the market. This was always one of my favorite trade shows to work. Congrats to the girls that have been booked!

Please Don't Ever Say "Booth Babe"
If you have read this blog throughout the years you know how much I hate the term "booth babe" I hate everything about it. Call them promotional models, trade show models, models, brand ambassadors, hostesses, crowd gatherers, call them anything but booth babe. Yes, they are attractive but they are so much more than that. They are educated, smart, and have goals in life. Booth babe makes them sound like they are hot and dumb. Here is an article written by a female reporter at CES which is taking place in Las Vegas right now.

Brand Ambassador, Promotional Model, Trade Show Model, Spokesmodel...
Brand ambassador, promotional model, trade show model, product specialist, spokesmodel, all mean the same thing to me but there are a few differences. The team at Pink Avenue Models gets tons of phone calls from people asking how to get into the modeling industry and we always reply with we're a promotional modeling agency so we do things a little different. We try to explain what we focus in which is staffing events and trade shows all over the country. Our clients all use different words when booking models but all want the same results. I think the main differences between the terms used in this industry are the amount of training involved and the attire.
Brand ambassadors - these positions are usually lower in pay, require khaki pants, an oversized t shirt, and take place outside. This is how a lot of people start in this industry. These are also the only type events that you can get aways with minimal amounts of make up and a pony tail.
Promotional model - this term is used a lot in liquor promotions or special events. The client is usually looking for attractive models that have the brand knowledge of their product memorized. These models are required to have their hair and make up done, usually wear a dress and heels, and be extremely fun and personable.
Trade show model - this is exactly what it sounds like, you are a model at a trade show. This is really good money for models because it's multiple days and long hours. Attire for these types of events can be anything from a suit to a swimsuit depending on the show. Clients look for experienced models that are professional, attractive and outgoing because you need to get people into their booth.
Product specialist/spokesmodel - these are usually long term positions for 1 brand that require a lot of training and maybe even traveling. The perfect example would be an auto show. These models are paid well, usually have contracts, and know everything there is to know about the product they are promoting.
Every one of these positions have the same goal which is to interact with potential consumers, educate them on the brand and encourage them to buy whatever you are promoting. The whole idea of a promotion is to promote a product and to get people excited about it, that is why companies spend so much time on marketing. This industry is so fun but we want you to remain professional as well. Happy Promoting!

Never Do These Things With Your Make Up
I have worked in this industry for a long time and have seen quite a bit. I have seen models at trade shows, brand ambassadors working street teams, models at special events, working liquor promotions and even on the runway. Most are obviously gorgeous but we have all made fashion mistakes and even had make up mess ups. Here are 5 things you should never do when doing your make up...
- Don't wear the wrong color foundation. This is so obvious, and always looks awful. DON"T do it!
- Using a concealer that is lighter then your foundation. This actually makes your blemishes more obvious instead of hiding them.
- Make sure you check your lipgloss in the right light. If you will be in bright lights at a convention center tone it down, if it's an event at a bar brighten it up.
- Wearing just 1 color of eyeshadow for your whole eye. Blend! Lighter colors towards the top, darkest in the crease.
- Too much make up in general. Keep it natural, everyone appreciates a naturally beautiful girl.
There is a time and place to wear fun colors and extreme make up and lashes but most of the time clients appreciate the natural look. Have fun working your upcoming events and keep these tips in mind.
