The Truth Behind The Modeling Industry
A friend posted this on her Facebook yesterday and most of it wasn't shocking. I started in the modeling industry at a young age and luckily I knew that I wouldn't make a lot of money and that this career would be short lived. I went to college, earned two degrees and now do modeling as a hobby and a way to be creative. Can you imagine working all day on set and getting 10 - 20% of your day rate? How do you live off of that? You don't, you are forced to borrow from your agency which gives them the power. As the article says, they know the models won't do anything about it.
This article is sad and I would think it's going to discourage people from getting into the industry. The team at Pink Avenue Models receives a lot of calls from potential models and the first question is about how much we will charge them. Stick to trade shows and events, at least you know you are getting the pay you earned!

Stay Strong Boston!
It seemed like a normal day in Chicago. I woke up booked events, checked in with clients, emailed promotional models and started planning for future events. Then in the afternoon we received the news of the explosions in Boston. It was devastating news and heart breaking. It was supposed to be an amazing day and one that people look forward to all year round. It would be selfish for me to go on with my day and blog about the modeling industry when awful things are happening in our country. With all of this said, our thoughts and prayers are with Boston tonight. The team at Pink Avenue Models is wishing the best for everyone involved in this awful incident. Get well Boston!

Answers To Your FAQ
The team at Pink Avenue Models receives tons of phone calls a week. Some of these phone calls we enjoy, like ones from new clients or old clients. We don't mind calls from models calling with questions about events they are booked for. Any phone call about work that has been booked or will be booked is great. With this said, of course we receive calls that aren't so great. Here are a few answers to your most FAQ.
- We do not book babies, children, or teenagers. Everyone we work with has to be 18+.
- I can not help you get into the modeling industry, I will never be able to help you "be discovered".
- We do not charge fees to work with us and we will never take a percentage of your check.
- Yes, you must submit your information on our website, that is how we get our model submissions.
- We do not have open calls. Our days are busy and unpredictable, we can't have people just coming in randomly through out the day.
- I can not book you and your friend together, the client always selects who they want to book not me.
- The reason you haven't heard from us is either we haven't had an event in your area or we don't think you would be a great addition to our staff. We want promotional models that have experience and a passion for this industry, not warm bodies that could care less about working.
- We are a promotional modeling agency that staffs events nationwide. Yes we get some requests for print or video work but it's not our main focus.
- The worst phone call that we get is... "tell me about your company". We have a website that explains everything that we do.
- Please don't call and ask if we have received your model submission. We receive hundreds a week and taking the time to find yours is time consuming. If you don't have a computer please don't mail your pictures, we can't use anything that isn't digital. (Yes, we receive calls from people that say this)

Brand Ambassador, Promotional Model, Trade Show Model, Spokesmodel...
Brand ambassador, promotional model, trade show model, product specialist, spokesmodel, all mean the same thing to me but there are a few differences. The team at Pink Avenue Models gets tons of phone calls from people asking how to get into the modeling industry and we always reply with we're a promotional modeling agency so we do things a little different. We try to explain what we focus in which is staffing events and trade shows all over the country. Our clients all use different words when booking models but all want the same results. I think the main differences between the terms used in this industry are the amount of training involved and the attire.
Brand ambassadors - these positions are usually lower in pay, require khaki pants, an oversized t shirt, and take place outside. This is how a lot of people start in this industry. These are also the only type events that you can get aways with minimal amounts of make up and a pony tail.
Promotional model - this term is used a lot in liquor promotions or special events. The client is usually looking for attractive models that have the brand knowledge of their product memorized. These models are required to have their hair and make up done, usually wear a dress and heels, and be extremely fun and personable.
Trade show model - this is exactly what it sounds like, you are a model at a trade show. This is really good money for models because it's multiple days and long hours. Attire for these types of events can be anything from a suit to a swimsuit depending on the show. Clients look for experienced models that are professional, attractive and outgoing because you need to get people into their booth.
Product specialist/spokesmodel - these are usually long term positions for 1 brand that require a lot of training and maybe even traveling. The perfect example would be an auto show. These models are paid well, usually have contracts, and know everything there is to know about the product they are promoting.
Every one of these positions have the same goal which is to interact with potential consumers, educate them on the brand and encourage them to buy whatever you are promoting. The whole idea of a promotion is to promote a product and to get people excited about it, that is why companies spend so much time on marketing. This industry is so fun but we want you to remain professional as well. Happy Promoting!

Heels Look So Amazing, But Feel So Awful!
Heels are mandatory in the modeling industry. We love the way we look in them but hate how they feel after and 8 hour shift at a trade show. Not only can heels cause pain and problems with your feet, they can cause problems with your lower back, knees and pelvis. The reason our feet hurt so much after wearing heels is because our feet slide forward in heels and our body has to reposition all of our weight. There is no way that models can get out of wearing heels to their events but there are a few tips that can reduce the pain and future problems. Only wear heels when you absolutely have to. Always have a pair of comfortable shoes that you can change into immediately after work. Pick a thicker heel over a stiletto and avoid pointy shoes, your toes have no room in them. Chose your heels wisely because you will spend a lot of time in them.
