Chicago Trade Shows - May 2015
One of my favorite trade shows of all time will be taking place in May. The NRA is definitely on my top 5 trade shows to work list, I think most promotional models would agree. It's kind of like a little trade show model reunion with food and drinks. Here is a look at trade shows that will be taking place in Chicago this May.
McCormick Place
Microsoft Ignite 2015. May 4 -8.
INTX- The Internet and Television Expo. May 5 - 7.
National Restaurant Association, Restaurant Hotel-Motel Show. May 16 - 19.
2015 Sweets & Snacks Expo. May 19 - 21.
American Society Of Clinical Oncology. May 29 - June 2.
Rosemont Convention Center
International Gem & Jewelry Show. May 1 -3.
Anime Central. April 15 - 17.
If you need trade show models for these conventions or any other event please contact the team at Pink Avenue Models. We can be reached at 312.993.7991 or by email at info@Pinkavenuemodels.com for more information.

My Favorite Chicago Trade Shows
The team at Pink Avenue Models specializes in staffing trade shows. We are located in Chicago and are lucky to have some of the biggest trade shows in the world. I have worked over 50 trade shows and have learned that some don't feel like work and some are torture. Here is a list of my top 5 favorite trade shows to work. If you are a trade show model in Chicago you should try and work these shows, they are the best!
- NRA. The National Restaurant Association puts on a great show. This convention has every kind of food, drink, and anything else you might see in a restaurant or hotel. Rows and rows of heaven!
- ABS. America's Beauty Show is every girls dream. This show has rows of hair, make up, nail products, tanning supplies and anything else a girl needs to get ready. Just make sure you don't sign up to get a crazy hair cut or colorful dye job.
- Sweets & Snacks Expo. This is a smaller show but similar to the NRA. The only problem with this is that the NRA and Sweets & Snacks overlap so you can usually only work one or the other.
- NACS. This is a wild show full of music, customers in jeans, and any snack your heart desires. This is a very relaxed show. Unfortunately this show changes cities every year and hasn't been in Chicago the last couple of years, Las Vegas stole it from us last year.
- Chicago Auto Show. Promotional models probably think I am crazy for saying this because this is a 10 day show and it hurts your body but the paycheck is great. If you are lucky enough to find a client that only books you on the weekend that is the perfect situation. We all learned that you have to reward yourself after 10 days at McCormick Place.

NACS - Las Vegas!
NACS is one of my favorite shows and I am looking forward to it coming back to Chicago next year. We have quite a few girls working this trade show in Las Vegas right now. Here is a picture of our trade show model Ashlee.

Break These Habits ASAP!
Every woman wants to look young forever, especially if you are a model trying to have a long career. There isn't an age limit in promotional models, women of all ages are working trade shows and promotions. Every client has specific qualities that they are looking for when they book models for their events. Some want young, some want older with college degrees and sales experience, some want blondes and some want brunettes. We never know what the client is going to request but we do know that the perfect trade show model is beautiful, outgoing, professional and reliable. Here are some habits that you should break if you want to look young forever. Enjoy!

Brand Ambassador, Promotional Model, Trade Show Model, Spokesmodel...
Brand ambassador, promotional model, trade show model, product specialist, spokesmodel, all mean the same thing to me but there are a few differences. The team at Pink Avenue Models gets tons of phone calls from people asking how to get into the modeling industry and we always reply with we're a promotional modeling agency so we do things a little different. We try to explain what we focus in which is staffing events and trade shows all over the country. Our clients all use different words when booking models but all want the same results. I think the main differences between the terms used in this industry are the amount of training involved and the attire.
Brand ambassadors - these positions are usually lower in pay, require khaki pants, an oversized t shirt, and take place outside. This is how a lot of people start in this industry. These are also the only type events that you can get aways with minimal amounts of make up and a pony tail.
Promotional model - this term is used a lot in liquor promotions or special events. The client is usually looking for attractive models that have the brand knowledge of their product memorized. These models are required to have their hair and make up done, usually wear a dress and heels, and be extremely fun and personable.
Trade show model - this is exactly what it sounds like, you are a model at a trade show. This is really good money for models because it's multiple days and long hours. Attire for these types of events can be anything from a suit to a swimsuit depending on the show. Clients look for experienced models that are professional, attractive and outgoing because you need to get people into their booth.
Product specialist/spokesmodel - these are usually long term positions for 1 brand that require a lot of training and maybe even traveling. The perfect example would be an auto show. These models are paid well, usually have contracts, and know everything there is to know about the product they are promoting.
Every one of these positions have the same goal which is to interact with potential consumers, educate them on the brand and encourage them to buy whatever you are promoting. The whole idea of a promotion is to promote a product and to get people excited about it, that is why companies spend so much time on marketing. This industry is so fun but we want you to remain professional as well. Happy Promoting!
