Happy New Year!

Well here it is, the last blog of 2015. What a great year! I have worked in this industry for a long time and it still amazes me. We are very fortunate and lucky to be able to do what we love every single day. As we reflect on the year we have to say thank you to all of our promotional models that worked with us this year. We appreciate all of you and could not do it without you. We appreciate all of the responsible, reliable, gorgeous, outgoing staff that keeps our clients happy. We know that there is a lot of flexibility in this industry and that some people treat work as an option. Thank you to all of the great promotional models that treat this as a career! NBAA - Starts Today!

Today the Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition starts in Las Vegas. This is a big event for us and a big one for our client. Las Vegas Trade Shows - December 2015

I just had my first trip to Las Vegas and I loved it more than I expected. I thought that it was weird that Sunday was such a huge party day. I fell asleep to the hotel shaking and listening to Naughty By Nature because they were performing that night. I also was shocked to know that my hotel was a shopping center, casino and hotel all in one. That seemed to be the theme of all of the hotels. I was so happy that they had In N Out and I ate it twice in 12 hours. Las Vegas is a great time and now I understand why it hosts so many trade shows. It is a great place with great restaurants and a lot to do. I obeyed curfew and went to bed by 1 but I can imagine how crazy the late nights get. Photo Advice

Winter is approaching us in Chicago and usually things slow down in the promotional modeling industry. This is the time to update your resume, get new pictures and look for more agencies to work for. When it comes to pictures the team at Pink Avenue Models wants to submit the best pictures that we can of our promotional models. With that said here are a couple things to keep in mind when submitting pictures to modeling agencies. Please wear clothes! I can't even count how many times we have been sent nude pictures. We don't want to see you naked, we will never send naked pictures of you to our client, and you should not send them to us. This includes implied nudes! We want to see recent pictures, not anything from 10 years ago. Please submit clear pictures of your face. We don't need pictures of your back or you with sunglasses. We want a clear representation of what you will look like when you show up to work your event. Photo shop happens, I know. Let's keep it minimal. Always send a candid picture as well. These are more accurate. Do not send pictures with your boyfriend, friends, baby, family or group. We need to know who you are, not other people. Those are my tips for now! If you get updated pictures always send them to your agents. People change over the years and we want the most current images. Team Pink Avenue

Anti Aging Tips!

A lot of our clients have specific requirements when hiring promotional models for their trade shows or events. Height comes up a lot and so does age. Of course clients want smart, beautiful and outgoing talent but they also like tall and younger. The modeling industry has an age cut off. I don't know the specific age and I think it depends on how you look and take care of your body. I saw this article and some of the tips are great! Fall Fashion - 2015!

It definitely feels like Fall in Chicago and that has inspired our post for the day. The team at Pink Avenue Models loves Summer, it's a busy season for us but not as busy as the next couple months will be. Cooler weather is on the way which means new fashion and a time for change. Another Pink Avenue Pet Peeve

Last night I was working on booking a trade show in Las Vegas and there were 2 problems that kept happening and it was driving me crazy! The first problem was promotional models not following instructions. We ask for specific information because that is what the client requests. When you don't submit the information that we asked for we have to ask you again which makes the process to submit you to our client a lot longer. Another problem is stage names. This has always been a pet peeve of mine, it's annoying. You have a legal name, that is how we saved you in our database. When you respond to our casting with your stage name it confuses us and we have to figure out who you are. This is promotional modeling not Hollywood. Lets keep things simple so we can all do our jobs. Sorry for the rant but understand how annoying this is when you are going through 60+ emails. Team Pink Avenue

The Top 10 Excuses We Have Heard From Promotional Models

This article made me laugh. Working in the promotional modeling world has taught me a lot about people and has definitely made it hard for me to believe any excuse we receive. When we book promotional models for trade shows, events or promotions we hope that they follow through and show up for work. In this industry if a model wakes up and doesn't want to work or books something better they usually give us a lame excuse. The modeling agency cant really do anything about it. We have to find a replacement which usually upsets the client and we always ban them from further work. There are so many staffing agencies now that models have no problem screwing one over because they know they can get hired from another company. This is a list of excuses to give instead of just bailing and I feel like we have heard all of them. Lollapalooza 2015 - Chicago!

Lollapalooza is back and will take place in beautiful downtown Chicago! This festival will celebrate it's 20th anniversary and is expecting over 300,000 attendees. The headliners are The Weeknd, Sam Smith, Florence + The Machine, Metallica, Paul McCartney, Alesso, and Kascade just to name a few. If you have never been to Lolla it is hard to explain the madness that comes along with this fest. It is 3 days of music, over 130 bands, some of Chicago's best food and people from all around the world. The scenery is the best, you see the Chicago skyline while listening to your favorite bands. It is definitely one of the biggest things to take place in Chicago. To all of the promotional models working this event, please be prepared. This fest is great but you are there to work so stay focused. Do not even attempt to drive to this event, it's not possible. Bring food and water, it is usually extremely hot. Watch out for yourself and others. Make sure you have comfortable shoes, chances are you will be working 12 hour days for 3 days in a row. Be safe, leave your house early so you are on time, and have fun! Team Pink Avenue

Easy Summer Hairstyles for Everyone

It's hot and humid in Chicago and most of the country right now. Women know that doing their hair in this weather is pointless. Flashback Friday!

It's everyone's favorite day of the week, Friday! Today we are taking it back a couple of years. We teamed up with Porter Airlines in a couple different cities, Boston and Chicago were some of them. The promotional models were hired to hand out paper planes with discount codes on them. This event lasted a week at a time. Do You Think This Dress Is Inappropriate?

I woke up this morning and checked my email like I do every morning and was bothered by this article. As we all know the USA women's team won the World Cup and that is so amazing! The part of this article that bothers me is that they are saying that these models are in skimpy dresses and that it is sending the wrong message to young girls. These models are in knee length dresses that are not tight or revealing at all. As promotional models we wear anything from bikinis to men's t shirts. I think we would all be happy if this black dress was our uniform at a trade show or event. Sexism still exists in the world of sports and it exists in life, this dress shouldn't be an issue. I think that the models looked classy and I feel that it was perfect for an award ceremony. Model Submissions

I know that the team at Pink Avenue Models had written about this numerous times but we keep getting the same wrong submissions. We look for promotional models that are experienced and professional. We want models that are interested in working trade shows, events, and other types of promotions. When submitting online there are a couple of things that we look for. Please use your real name not your stage name. Also, use an appropriate email address. When we see your email and it's inappropriate or you're calling yourself a queen or a bad bi**h its an automatic turn off. Please submit 4 different pictures like the fields ask for and upload a resume with promotional experience. We only work with models 18+ so keep that in mind as well. We do not manage talent and models work as independent contractors, we won't make anyone famous. Keep this things in mind when filling out your submission. Survival Tips for Promotional Models

I have worked in the promotional modeling industry for a while now, longer than most. I have worked as a promotional model at trade shows, events, street teams, and just about any other type of event there is. I have also worked at 2 agencies and have been part of everything this industry has to offer. We love what we do and are so lucky to work in this industry. We need promotional models, as many as we can find. We want to help you get booked with us and other modeling agencies across the country. Here are a couple things that we look for when it comes to adding promotional models to our database.

1. Be professional. This includes everything from your email address to your pictures and resume. We want our clients to have the best models for their events.
2. Watch what you say on your social media pages and on the job forum pages. We see everything.
3. Be reliable. We understand that things happen but since we do work in a flakey industry we don't believe every excuse that we hear.
4. Don't bother the agency. We receive a ton of calls and emails every day and try to answer all of them. Unfortunately we have no say in who our clients choose for their events, they always pick.
5. Be promo model ready. This means have black pants, a business suit, flats, heels, and khakis. These are basic uniforms for events.

Summer Has Arrived in Chicago!

Summer has arrived in Chicago, I think! The forecast is calling for high 80's all week. This means it is time to pull out our Summer dresses and shorts finally. This also means that we have all realized we haven't seen the sun in 8 months and are quite pale. I support the fake tan and staying out of the sun, we have to be safe. Festival Season Starts This Weekend!

It is only 40 degrees in Chicago right now but that doesn't surprise us. This weekend is the first festival weekend of the year and it's a BIG one. Everyone knows that Summer is extremely busy for promotional models, the work never ends. Festivals will be going on all Summer and it is a great way for models to make a lot of money. For anyone that is new to the industry be prepared to work long days while working a festival. These events start in the morning and close around 10PM or midnight. Remember that you will be outside all day and possibly without a tent. Make sure that you bring your lunch, snacks and lots of water and do not forget sunscreen! Make sure that you have khaki shorts that are not too short and comfortable flats. Those are my tips for festival season! Enjoy the warm weather and all the money! Team Pink Avenue

Pink Avenue Model's Pet Peeve

The team at Pink Avenue Models likes to blog about events that are taking place, trade shows that are coming up, and tips to help our promotional models. We also spend a lot of time on job boards, or Facebook forums, it's a great place to recruit! One thing that drives me crazy is that people don't use their real names on social media and that they have inappropriate email addresses. It is 2015 and people look at your social media pages before they think about hiring you for a job. You can learn a lot about a person based on their profiles. You can learn how they interact with people and how they represent themselves. Do not post anything that you wouldn't want a future employer to see or read. We like to see pictures of your events and positive posts, not drunken nights with inappropriate language. Please use your real name and be cautious when you're posting. Also, when you submit to modeling agencies use your real name! It's so annoying for us to send you paperwork and receive a response that you are using a fake name and need us to change it and resend it. Think about everyone else involved. Team Pink Avenue

Promotional Model Travel Tip

We know a lot of promotional models that travel to different cities for work, that is awesome! Here is a tip for anyone that is thinking about doing this. Please have your travel and lodging arrangements made before you agree to work. Modeling agencies are already hesitant to book models from out of state because anything can happen, the flight can be delayed, you can get lost, who knows. If you tell an agent that you are available they may ask for proof of your flight or lodging because they want to make sure you have made the effort and are committing. When planning to travel for events or trade shows make sure that you know how much you are making and how much you are spending. Most clients do not cover travel expenses so be aware of this before you commit to traveling. Just keep all of this in mind, the agencies appreciate it! Team Pink Avenue
